I just received this as a "present" through shipping, it seems to be losing flesh around its edges and turning into white?
It has a bunch of polyps on it, I'm guessing these need to open.

Also what is it?

Kinda hard to see the details but looks like a chalice to me
 
Maybe a cyphastrea? If so, polyps don’t really extend. They are low light and flow. You sure the white is fading and not new growth?
