Oh wow so like 10%? The hysteria made me think it was going to be 40-50% haha
Hey if I can save $4 to $6 by getting something I always use ahead of time, I'll happily do it!

54 cents per gallon for me
59 cents here and smokes were 50 cents a pack.
I still get farm fresh eggs for $1.00 a dozen. Nice big brown eggs from golden buff chickens. My 90 yo dad and 83 yo mom raise them. They told me I should start raising my own. I said I have reef tanks with no automation so I don't have the time. I wanted to say at a dollar dozen from you why would I bother but I refrained. :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:
The bucket arrived and the packaging has a slight change, or it's new to me. I haven't gotten the 160g in about a year, so you can imagine my surprise when I opened the door and low and behold...the handle is now all plastic!

When did this happen? From the looks of it, I don't expect it to last anywhere near as long as the metal hoop did. The hand grip is improved in my opinion as it's shaped a bit better, but the plastic pin that fits to the bucket seems like a weak point.

I have metal handle buckets that are 15 years old or more and still going strong. Probable not gonna happen now.

Just my .02
I was surprised as well as disappointed. My salt buckets do double duty and are used to catch maple sap in the spring when I tap our trees. I don't see the plastic holding up very well.

Just bought 12 buckets on amazon. Didn’t realize until today that the price per gallon is actually cheaper buying the 160g (.2375 cents/g) vs 200g (.3039 cents/g). Hmmmm. Thx

I had 2 boxes of 200g reef crystal get rock solid after 6+ months in the garage in Chicago. Moisture does get through the bags. Now I only buy buckets as they tend to hold up longer.
I have a lot maybe 25 (50 gal) bags in my garage. May need to bring them inside and store them.

And i was going to got to my LFS and get another box. :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Another thing you might find interesting is that buying the 50 gallon bags only costs slightly more than the 160 bucket per gallon ($0.247 for the bags vs $0.237 for the bucket). I used to buy the box because I like the 50 gallon bags, but I switched to buying individual bags once I realized they were much cheaper.

Pretty crazy that there is a surcharge for buying bulk? It pays to always check things out as what happened a while ago they put the 200g’s on sale making them less expensive then rest but of course when they came off sale, I didn’t recalculate. I also dont understand how they can absorb the price of the plastic incorporated in the bucket and offer that option for less then a box? Crazy pricing strategy.

I currently have enough buckets so will have to figure out how to responsibly dispose of the buckets as I use them. I’ll try to just give them away to those who need them as they are about $5 or so in Home Depot $ Walmart and need to pay extra for lid I believe.

Everyday shopping, smaller pack of cookies is cheaper per ounce to the large "value" pack.

I've only bought 1 box of salt, the rest have been buckets as the price per pound is cheaper.

you got duped into buying a bunch of salt. thats what. not really, just kidding. i have just as many buckets sitting around, but thats because i have bought them many, many months ago, for instances where i know i can get it less than 40 bucks. i know that price will eventually go up, so ive always stocked up ahead time.

While the increase is effective 1-15, the new price lists are worked out with wholesaler/suppliers, then given to the merchants. With My LFS, it was a month before shelves reflected new price.

that price has being same for over a month now! what did you pay for them?

...actually this post got me thinking, can we set up a new thread (or keep this one alive) and all of us would be updating it whenever we find deals on salt online!? salt is something we all use!
