Clownfish had a white poop trail coming out and fins are turning pale. I have Paraguard on hand. Would it be ok if I did a dip or would that be too much for the clown? It is currently resting on the bottom gasping. I just set up a qt should i do the recommended dose for qt or dip? thanks in advance.

I've moved this to the fish disease, diagnosis, and treatment forum to get more expert eyes on it for you, but white stringy poop is a telltale sign of an internal parasite. it is best to treat with praziquantel + metronidazole so both pathogens are covered. You can combine different medications (e.g. Prazipro + Seachem Metroplex), or API General Cure contains both. (per humblefish)

Yes mix GC and Focus with food and feed for up to 14 days. Does the clown have any spots or sloughing skin? Excess mucous production? I don’t have any experience with paragaurd but if it were me I’d do a FW dip to start with. How long have you had him, any new additions or events?

I also have focus. The clown is not eating. I can't see anything external so I guess paraguard would be ineffective.

Thank you. I have metroplex and focus on me right now so I am going to start with those. Thank you and in future I will get those so I have them on hand.

is it usual for an internal parasite to pop up after having the fish for 6 months?

i am going to put the two clowns in qt with the metroplex and paraguard(I already dosed). I am concern about doing the freshwater dip, is it relatively safe because the smaller clown really isn't looking good.

Freshwater dip isn't really necessary. Doesn't do anything for an internal parasite.

Not much to see but the small clown and big clown have been added to the qt. These are some pics of the sick clown. Not much to see as far as I can tell. When I put the small clown in the qt it rested on its side and was not looking good. Still swims when it is scared.

Well the little guy didn't make. I guess that's why you qt when you get new fish. You never know what they might have. Thanks a lot to everyone that has helped me and I am going to qt the larger clown for around a month to make sure that she doesn't have the same parasite.
