Hello, I am knew to reef2reef. Fairly new to the saltwater reefing community. My name is Cary Cook and I live in Maryville, MO. I have been around freshwater for about 30 years raising cichlids, angelfish and community tanks.

I started the reefing journey about a year and a half ago. My system is a 75 gallon display tank. After initial cycle I added coral and fish over the course of about 3 months. Left for a vacation over a one week period. Had a power outage and lost virtually everything roughly about $1000 in livestock.

Went back to the drawing board. Installed a 25 gallon sump, Apex 3 pro as well as virtually everything to fully automate a system. I cycled my tank with new dry Marco rock and new live sand. Patiently went through my new cycle and have now been going for about 5 months now. Things are going well. I have a cleanup crew, 8 fish, 10 different corals (soft and sps), a bubble tip nem and a rock flower nem. Levels are stabilizing quite well now.

I am a perfectionist at heart so it is hard for me to keep from tinkering and changing things. I am finally starting to see growth in some of the easier corals.

I will create a build thread next.

Happy Reefing!

Cary

Welcome to Reef2Reef!

Welcome to the community Cary! From one perfectionist to another - I understand your struggle to wanna tweak stuff here and there, ha-ha. Congrats on the growth! I am so sorry to hear about the outage your first go around. I hope everything goes smoothly your second time. I'd love to see some pictures of your tank if you ever get the time to snag some 🙂
