Just got an extra Nero 3 for my 20g AIO. I'd like to put it on the back wall but that means the 'dry side' magnet would be under water in the AIO "sump" . Bad idea? No problem? thanks

Hey all,

I just purchased a Red Sea Max Nano, it’s a 20g AIO cube. The display is roughly 62L/16.5Gallon.

I’ve finally decided on my powerhead, and decided to go a Nero 3. From what I’ve found, most people run a Nero on a tank my size at roughly anywhere from 2%-20% capacity.

Just would like to check, is a Nero 3 suitable for my tank, or will it be overkill? Not sure if running it super low for long times could cause damage to the motor perhaps?
i have one in my 15g. its so strong i have it turned down to just 20% and it still gives full flow to my tank. Good thing about the nero series is you can set the % of flow you want.

I am not sure but I am doing that now! I wonder if anyone else could chime in and let us know if this is a bad thing to do?

Actually I contacted AI and they said while that magnet is not designed to be underwater and they don’t directly recommend doing it they know that many people do it with no problems whatsoever. So a little cya on their part and the choice is ours I believe. :)

I run a Nero 3 on my 20 gallon. 65% max rating I think I'm at 1500 gpm. I was so worried to begin with but everything is doing much better with the higher flow.

Can you send me a snapshot of your schedule? I have one on my 20 gallon long and am having trouble getting it setup.

I have a Fluval 13.5G with a Nero 3, and it works great. Also like that I have an AI HD Prime 16 so I work off the same app/UI.

Nero heads have enough flexibility they work just fine for small tanks. I run mine very low and I get plenty of flow.

I sync it up with my lighting times. I run 35% to 65% during daylight hours and during my night cycle I drop it down to 10% to 35% Max. Medium variance. When I can get a good picture of my tablet I will link it.

Which wave setting do you use?

My current setting, but I might change it up. Might go more heavily on the pulse setting because my Zoas seem to enjoy it.

I have a Nero 3 in my Max Nano -- upgraded to it a few months ago, and IMO it's the best decision I made yet.

The Nero 3 is very flexible and IMHO will work well on just about any small tank, or as supplemental on a big tank. I have one on a 15 gallon Waterbox Peninsula Mini running at random 65% during the light period and 50% random during night period. I also have one on a Top Fin 5.5 gallon QT tank that runs 50% random lights on, 20% lights off. My only complaint is I wish the critter guard still allowed you to angle the pump.

I run two nero 3's on opposite sides of a 25 gallon. My flow is pretty strong for a mixed reef, but everything looks healthy. My pumps max out at 45%. I like the gyre effect and keeps all the detritus flowing.
