Ballyhoo I'm just posting this to show an example of a tank that has been on AFR for a couple of years following most of the advice given above.
I test alk on a regular basis. I'm currently testing daily because I made some changes to increase my pH and coral are growing so consumption is increasing fairly quickly. I've have never tested magnesium. I test calcium once every 4-6 weeks but mine hasn't been trending up so my small WCs I do to vacuum detritus must be enough to keep it in check. AFR has been very simple but effective for me and I love simple. I use a reefdose 2 but did manually dose once a day for 9 months.
Corals were all grown from small frags.
Currently dosing 45ml AFR daily up from 30ml 3 weeks ago when I increased the pH. Tank is approx 65g

Then.

you're so lucky to have a yellow tang. I was in Kauai a couple weeks ago doing a lot of snorkeling and saw numerous yellow tang. But I knew I could not get them through Hawaii agriculture checks at the airport. I also wanted to bring home my favorite friend Gertrude, but pretty sure I could not get here through the airport either. And Alaska Airlines has a policy against sea tortoises.

I'm currently dosing 7.8ml daily in my nano cube with 8 gallons water volume. It's PACKED with corals and doing really well. This keeps me at 8dKH. Technically I'm above the "Max" dose listed on TM's website, but it's working!

FWIW, the max dose is not really a max or very high. TM lists it out of concern over O2 lowering, but they say they have seen no issues in real tanks at higher doses.

It’s packed full, probably too full I’m sure. That green slimer and green and purple stylo grow like weeds! I’m getting about 1/16 to 1/8 inches of growth on that green slimer every day. I’m sure they’re sucking up most of the Ca and dKH!

wow your doing very well. how are your phosphate levels? I just measured mine and both of my tanks which seem to be doing equally well but they're both at .30. I'm generous feeding the fish, but I also have refugiums. I just hear different things about phosphate. Some people say they have no problem with high high levels and then there's that rule that they say your supposed to be below .1.

I’ve been running Fauna Marin Phos 0.04 for the last month. I just made another post on it. It keeps my PO4 right at 0.055ppm and I keep my NO3 at 2-3ppm dosing ammonia and urea. AFR keeps my alk at 7.9-8.0dKH. I also do daily 2% auto water changes with TM Pro-Reef. Honestly, the daily AWCs have helped growth more than anything. It might just be a coincidence, but my AFR demand went way up after those started???

Just bear in mind that such a product may start out maintaining a specific low phosphate, but as (if) it binds any, that maintained level will rise.
