I've been following The Weather Channel's coverage of Hurricane Dorian.... and although my heart goes out to the ppl of the Bahamas...

....dont you think this Hurricane has been pretty much a NON EVENT?

Kinda boring watching Weather Channel reporters standing on the beach saying, "Well it's raining and we have gusts of 30mph winds "

Kinda Boring

Whip-Dee-do. Boring

A "Non event" for the United States, a catastrophe for Bahamas. Could have more or less flattened Florida if it went slightly differently.

But keep in mind weather channels thrive on fear mongering, and attempting to keep people watching.

No. it could have been devastating if it stayed on track resulting in damage, loss of life and possibly affecting the reef industry as we have many divers and wholesalers in the florida /Carolina area not to mention an abundance of members who could have lost their tanks due to water damage and loss of power.

It’s hitting me right now in Hilton Head.

Hurricanes are never boring if your the one in its path.

Perhaps try watching Cartoon Network.

Dont get me wrong.... loss of life is TRAGIC

....but with watching this Hurricane....isn't it like NASCAR fans who wanna seeing a 10-car 160mph crash but with no one getting hurt?

I guess I'm crazy seeing Hurricane Cat5 coverage as INTRIGUING if no one gets hurt...

Wish we could watch a Cat5 Hurricane hit a desolate island and wiping it off the map. That's all I'm saying, major weather events are intriguing as "H"

It would have flattened my house if it had stayed on track. At the very least roof would be gone and tank dead...I got really really lucky.

But yes, I do agree news channels work everyone up.

I can’t imagine how difficult life is gonna be in northern Bahamas now. They will need a lot of help for all of us.

If you really considered loss of life tragic, why would you downplay and minimize the hurricane like you do in the original post and title?

I'm kinda guy when a major thunderstorm rolls thru my area, I'm in my garage watching it roll thru in AWE.

Any powerful weather event just intrigues me like crazy.

I guess I'd be more intrigued if a Hurricane could be viewed in Live Action while it's out at sea with no destruction, no loss of life

I can relate to this. Must be an Ohio thing, lol. I stayed up all night watching spectrum weather when that tornado outbreak happened in May.

I love boring hurricanes! They are my absolute favorite kind. Though this one just got a little more exciting because it has now knocked our power out.

I don’t watch the weather channel for excitement though, I watch it to be informed on the current situation. I frequently travel some of the places I seen on there today. It helps to know what kind of damage these area sustained and what may be heading my way.

Hurricane Hugo, September 1989.
Me and 12 other men sailed the USNS Chauvenet from Little Creek VA straight thru it.

Spent 3 days going thru it. The ship was to slow to out run it so the best choice was to go straight thru it to spend the least amount of time in it.

No lives lost and it wasn’t intriguing.

I'm in South Florida. People were panicking last Thursday for no reason. The news people were all kinds of hyped up. Once it was obvious it wasn't coming here they should have just let it go. I would have rather seen the focus be on the Bahamas.
I agree, but I think the problem is that the Bahamas literally got wiped out. So there is no one there yet (or wasn't) to cover everything and make sure people are okay.
