Hey everyone! I got my hippo tang in Qt. It has these patches on him now. He didn’t have the one on his head till today, he’s been in copper, nitro, freshwater baths and methylene blue baths. Currently sitting in just saltwater for past 3 days. Is it HLLE? I will try get better pics later. The spot below his mouth is kind of like popping out and round. Thanks!

I wouldn't think so.

That tangs looks young, the diesase your talking about takes time... like awhile to show up.

Is the fish in a QT?

Get more pics, id say you have damage here or some sort of bacterial infection in a wound.

I see no lateral erosion.

Personal id treat for bacterial infection

I agree better pics might help but it certainly looks like HLLE. HLLE is not just on the lateral but also can be on head as well, hence the H in HLLE.

Yeah it is in a qt tank, been three weeks. I do water changes every few days. It is very young still like 1.5”. I will probably give it more baths to help with any fungus etc.

Could be, if it is than large water changes and removal of carbon, while feeding high nutrients seems to bring em back.

Does not matter the age of the tang, copper treatments have been shown to cause it in some cases. Are you using copper in the QT?

Here’s more pics. I am wondering if I should add copper back in to be safe, I switched to saltwater only as I was getting ready to add it to dt in a two weeks.

Here’s a two day update after some extra freshwater baths and methylene blue baths. I’m seeing few white patches on the body but face and both has cleared out. The best part is this fellas a champ, has been eating lots every day since day one. Ps. I have been giving some Nori soaked in selcon too :)

This is not HLLE but looks more than Lymphocystis and would make sense as to results after FW baths.
Lympho is viral and generally associated with water quality and diet.
Verify your tank readings and if you are using API test kits, you may likely be getting false readings with belief they are spot on when they are actually higher than you are seeing. With good water quality, lympho will fall off fish.
As for diet, feed at minimum:
Spirulina brine shrimp
Nori seaweed basted with garlic extract
LRS Herbivore diet
Formula 2 flake and frozen
Hikari Marine cuisine
Hikari Mega marine algae
Mysis shrimp
small plankton

Add selcon vitamins to the food 2-3X per week and garlic extract on alternating days for immunity system health and overall stamina
