I have a baseball amount of cheato algae in my refugium. The tips of some hairs of the algae are turning black. What does this mean?

My tank is new. 90 gallons with 40 gallon sump/refugium. 0 ammonia and nitrite and 0-5 nitrate. Refugium light is on 20 hours a day. Light is an LED 5k. Nothing fancy.

I don't think it's dying, just hungry. Needs some nutrients in there.

Just turned it over. It's very brittle. A lot of pieces broke off. There isn't much flow in the refugium by the way.

How did you add flow in a refugium? I have miracle mud in the refugium. Don't think I wanna add flow in that section because it easily will cloud up the water. There's plenty of flow in the previous chamber

Isn't it pointless to dose for it if it has no purpose? I don't plan on expanding the bioload anytime soon and I will be adding another 40 lbs of rock soon so I might not need it.
