Not sure what happened. My nem was super happy after I switched to more powerful lights- flow hasn’t changed much. He was in the same spot for almost 6 months and now he’s moved almost to the sand bed and looks… deflated? The only thing that’s really changed is that the clownfish finally found him and started snuggling- for a couple weeks now.
Here’s before and after:

Its probably just because of the light intensity increase. The nem still looks happy and fully inflated.
Thanks, yeah - not to me. When I turned on the new lights (at a much higher power than current setting) he got SUPER happy and went from "mostly belly" to fully bubbled. Then the clown found him and as you can see, was snuggling with the full bubbles. In the meantime I've turned the lights down and they've been on a stable schedule for 1-2 weeks. The last thing that happened was that I gave him some ZoPlan when I was feeding the corals. He usually doesn't get that, just a chunk of shrimp ever week or so. And now he up and moves after 6 months?

It looks like his mouth is gaping a bit to me. No?

The mouth does look open a little bit but mine does that too and its been fine. There are days were I walk in and my nem is completely deflated with the stomach turned out and it scares the living hell out of me.

what are your parameters? That might indicate something

Did you acclimate it to the new lights? If not you might want to turn them down for a bit.

Not really.. but they were initially set on 75% and he was super happy then I turned down to 30% and put the lights up 7in higher and he was still happy.

He only started deflating or getting smaller when the clown found him and started snuggling 24/7

NO3 at zero would be concerning? What test are you using for that? Is it API?

I have heard that a 0 result on API is not really 0. If you are using another test, you may want to start dosing nitrates as nems like a higher nitrate level in the water. I shoot for 20-30ppm nitrates in my tank for my nems.

with 0 nitrates I believe you run the risk of dinos.

My nems also like a little higher nitrate. I try to keep them between 10 and 20. 2 of them are directly under one of my kessil at 85% intensity
