Looks like cyano bacteria - is not not something you want permanently but is just part of process as tank goes thru it's initial cycle. How long has tank been up and running?

Hmmm seems like a long time to suddenly have cyano but I just had a second bloom after tank was started in late May. It can happen. Did you get the diatom (brown) bloom? Any green hair algae? Is this red stuff slimy? Can you brush it away or is it hardened? What kind of livestock do you have in there and what are your water parameters? Need to get an idea of your levels in order to know more

Got the brown algae, some brown hair like wavy stuff, got rid of that. I have 2 clowns, and 2 blue damsels, spider crab. Corals: frogspawn, orange zoas, and some candy cane. Salt is 1.025, nitrate 0, red stuff is not slimy. Comes off when touched. Protein skimmer working good.

Gonna have to holler for someone more experienced on this ... I am too new to be a lot of help. I'd syphon it out of sand during water change - might just be a little bloom that just needs a little time to sort out but others may have better idea, especially if it gets worse. Sure looks like cyano - which is not "bad" just part of the ongoing algae thing that tanks do

High phosphate, low flow, high nutrients, too much of the wrong spectrum of light can all cause this. Check all of this and if that doesn't work red slime remover as a last resort. Read the directions and follow them carefully because it depletes O2 in the tank.
