Is something wrong with my Yellow Tang?

I received the Yellow Tang I ordered, overnighted to me. All seems good with it except these dark colored indentations it has on both sides about 3/4 an inch behind the pectoral fins. One side is slightly worse than the other. They almost look like holes...

Pictures were taken only 1 hour after arriving, in case that is a factor. Even if he colors up, I'm scratching my head on what the indentations could be.

Any ideas?

Hopefully you submitted this video to shipper and its an image Ive never seen on a tang. Suspect would be injury when captured for shipment but on both sides in same location may suggest internal or other condition. Using Seachem Kanaplex may be best bet in a separate tank as I see you went straight for display and not quarantine which you have to do now anyway

Kanaplex treats internally and externally and is absorbed by the fish making this broad spectrum treatment best.

Thanks for the input. I did let the shipper know right away. They said to give it a few days and see if it goes away...

You caught me on straight to the display :( I normally would never do that but the fish is straight from Biota and it seems many go straight to DT with them. Even worse, I picked up another clownfish later today and ended up setting up a 20 gal quarantine tank it anyways...

Always assume especially shipped fish has something and quarantine. There is nothing worse that discovering an issue and then having to pull all the fish and leave tank fishless for 6-8 weeks due to an outbreak

It looks like shipping/capture damage to me as well. I can also see some odd clubbing of the pectoral fins, not sure what that is, but could be related.

Here's another detail, I've noticed he's swimming in a jerky kind of motion. Never had a Tang before, so I don't know if this is typical, but it doesn't look like it would be. Here's a video from this morning, haven't had him even 24 hours yet.

Just tagging along to see how this goes. I bought 3 yellows from biota last March and other than being pale, which I expected and a little fin damage from tail swipes, also no surprise mine were in good condition.

Did you have any of the indent markings on the sides like I'm showing? It's difficult to get a great shot. It hides in the rocks as soon as I walk up to the tank. I have to stand 15 ft away and use my phones Zoom while I freeze like a statue

This is about a month after I got them and moved them to the display. I can't find pics of when I first got them but I don't remember any discoloration on their bodies. Hopefully it is just an injury and it heals. I did have one develop popeye in both eyes but they both went back to normal after a few days with no treatment.

Thanks, yours look great! I'm not super worried about the color because I already see it yellowing up and I know that could take days or weeks or more. It's the physical indentation on both sides that I'm worried about. Of course the dark color inside the indentations as well. On the video or the pictures it probably just looks like a dark spot but an indentation. The fact that it has the same situation in the same spot on both sides of its body makes me think it's not an injury though...

I wish I had something to offer. It is strange that the marks are on both sides. Maybe #fishmedic can offer some more assistance now that the video is up?

This looks like an internal injury to - me - the tail also looks odd - I'm assuming this is a small tang.

That darting forward can be a sign of flukes or some other skin irritation, or particles in their water (I didn't see those though).

These YT are tank raised, so I can't say if they could have picked up flukes in the supply chain or not.

The marks are not consistent with flukes, so it either isn't flukes, or there are two separate issues here.

This looks like an internal injury to - me - the tail also looks odd - I'm assuming this is a small tang.

It's about 2 - 2.5 inches if I had to guess

I didn't quarantine. I learned my lesson. Just starting to stock the tank so only a couple clownfish in there now. 100 gallon tank. I only gave it a pass because it's from biota and I've read a lot of people saying they only skip QT when they come from them.

Too many skipping this important step and paying the price. BIOTA is a facility known for Tank raised fish - Not Immune fish. You recognize the importance in this step and know what to do moving forward. If the darting is continuous, consider PraziPro dosed at 85% of recommended with an air stone added
