I'd point out that as a used tank, you wouldn't set it up without resealing the tank. And on this tank, there is a lot of labor.

I'd offer $600. The $100.00 off will cover your material cost and time.

It is difficult to say without being able to inspect the seams.

But from the look of the tank, it was in use for some time as coraline algae doesn't develop overnight.

Ask the seller to send you pictures of the seams and post the pictures here.

I would not buy a used big glass tank unless it was ‘like new’ or I could inspect seams before it was broken down… Too much anxiety

Ok guys so I have a question
Would the tank and stand fit in my back of a suburban with dimensions of the opening at 80” long 40 inches tall by 49” wide I’m wondering if we’d need to bring a trailer
The tank is 72x18x24

Tank and stand are generally worth $2 per gallon.... tops

Throw in a working, clean sump.... maaaaaaybe $3/gal max

You still have to disassemble and move the sucker.

Only way I'd pay $700 is if he delivered it, set it all up and spent an hour explaining everything

Used tanks are like used upright pianos.... nobody wants them unless it's practically giving itself away and can be moved with little hassle

Usually people who have run tanks like that, take reasonable care. Guarantee no…..but it’s one tenth the new price.

That doesn't tell you anything; it is the outside of the tank.

You want multiple pictures of the seams where they join the glass panes, which is on the INSIDE of the tank.

What has always worked for me is just ask " what is your bottom line". You must be confident in how you ask. If they say that is the the bottom, just nod your head and say I will have to get back to you. And leave. If he doesn't charge his mind as you are walking away, go out side for a moment, then go back to them and say ok I'll take it for your price.

No, I would not buy that big of a tank that needs resealing.

You want to see the silicone between the glass panes, which you can only see from the outside. The bead on the inside of the tank doesn’t tell you much about the integrity of the seam.

Perhaps. But it does show other important things about the silicon condition which you can't see from the outside.

As an example, I would inspect the silicon inside the tank to see if it is chewed up from a razor during algae cleanup.
