The joke would be seeing this thing immediately swim into and get eaten by one of my anemones. I can buy a *lot* of other stupid fish for $32k...

I am a coral guy and when I purchase fish, I look at the price first and then if that fish will serve the purpose…

I got 8 fishes in under $400 a month back.

- 2 tangs (Eibli mimic tang, another white tang). Both under $60 each

- 1 gold stripped rabbit fish $40
This guy is a solid algae eater but need to keep an eye on it. Cleared out hair algae in a month

- red stripped anthias(6 inches). Just wow. $80

- 3 blue reef chromis for activity and poop value. $30 each. Love them. 4 inches+

- 1 booger size mandarin but was eating blood worms

Point is there are still plenty to fishes around $50. Sailfin is another fish around $60

In NJ, absolutely fish is my place to go to. They have decent prices, keep rare fishes and quarantine their fishes.

Unpopular opinion, if that tang was the same price as any other zebrasoma, I'd pick the other Zebrasoma.

Being a hobbyist I think the uniqueness of koi tangs is cool, but otherwise I agree with you. If I was only going by what looked the best I would take a purple or yellow before a koi any day.

The hobby was started by well off people, and they still have companies providing niche markets for them. I guess the rest of us can only dream and wonder about things like this.
But I bet those less fortunate than us see us in the same fashion none the less. Spending hundreds to thousands of dollars on things we don't eat, live in, or drive.

For me the funniest things is that if I saw one I’d assume it was sick or scared and go with the normal one . It’s like the yurple tang which looks like someone sucked the soul out of a yellow.

They also sell fish for many many times their normal cost and have the harshest DOA policy. I mean I got my yellowtail tamarin (like a gem tang but better ) for $30, they sell for $250-400 . Same with a china which is usually like $80.
Also they sell “super male” wrasse which is a bogus term that really means old male that will die soon.

If only I were rich and had billions of dollars to burn… but nope just a working class American in the first responder business, making like no money for what I do… no way I would ever be able to buy that fish! And even if I was rich I would not want this guy in a tank with anything else!!

I think I'd rather have a new car, five months of rent paid off, and a 200 gallon high end reef tank over this birdpoop-looking tang, thank you very much. I can't believe someone bought that. Maybe Andrew Sandler? I can't think of anyone else who would pay for this fish, unless Jeff Bezos is getting into reefing.

Who on earth is coming up with these prices? This one's a 50$ fish, max. I'm not paying more for an ugly scopas tang. I like regular scopas tangs, but these ones just look like they have a bad case of Saprolegnia.
