Update of my favorite sump friend. Lazlo. Super cool to have a chance to watch him grow
Neat crab - looks like either Platypodia granulosa or Platypodia pseudogranulosa (the differences I've heard between them are surprisingly vague and hard to find pictures of to confirm; as a general rule, if it's from the Indian Ocean, it's probably granulosa; if it's from the West Pacific, it's probably pseudogranulosa); as a fun fact, these crabs are known to be highly (lethally) toxic with Saxitoxin and/or Saxitoxin-related compounds (so don't go eating this adorable little guy, haha).

It is a Xanthid crab, so it's not reef-safe, but these guys only get about the same size as Emerald Crabs; so they shouldn't be too problematic.

Thank you so much for this ! I love to learn more about him. It’s also good to know he likely will not get much bigger

Have you thought about getting him his own tank??
lol I have. It has not passed approval from my gf. In the meantime he has sand, macro algae and rocks in the sump to enjoy as well as the occasional sacrificial hermit/crab and piece of smelt.

Do you know what kind of crab he is?

See posts above. I speak for the seas gave the closest ID I could hope for — probably a Platypodia pseudogranulosa
Ah missed that post! He is just super cute! I love crabs

Thank you me too! I wish they got more love and attention.
Me too. Love hermits. Always wanted one of the big land hermits but was never allowed one as a kid. Now I have a lot and they are so cool!
