Is this ICH??

Hello Jay,

I hope you are well?

It's been almost two weeks now after raising Salinity back to normal in the fish only tank. I've just started seeing white spots on my Powder Blue.

It's only been the odd one or two on a fin or on the body. The strange thing is that they are never on the fish for more than 24hrs? Always gone within a day?

All other fish seem well and healthy.

Any ideas/feedback would be great.

Ah sorry to hear that mate. Yeah I similarly have doubts about the success of my hypo. Unfortunately I don't have confidence that my Hanna test pen was actually accurate. I really should've bought a more expensive and reliable salinity probe.

It's so hard to tell if the spots I'm seeing are ick or just normal plugs etc. The problem I have now is that I am starting to build proper bioloads and coral in the DT. If I need to do it again I'm not sure I would put the DT into hypo. It also ended costing a bomb in salt in water changes on the way back up which I didn't think about.

It could be that ich made it through hypo, but that means that something went wrong. 30 days at full hypo (1.009 SG) has always worked for me. Another thing that can go wrong is a breach in biosecurity - adding something from an infected tank after hypo has been run.

It also could be that the spots you are seeing are not ich, but either sand grains or mucus plugs. Mucus plugs are usually larger than ich though, and hang onto the fish longer.

I don't suppose these are anything that would show up in a video or picture?

I'm sure I was very strict with the Hypo! Tested every day and bought a refractometer to confirm salinity was accurate.

There's nothing at all showing on the fish today but I'll try and get a picture over to you asap!

Is it possible that ICH would only be on the affected fish for a day?? Previously it was at least 3-5days before a patch would clear.
