It’s crazy how much the shipping is these days. I sent a box to a buddy in south FL and it was over $100 using pirates shipping.

For anyone who uses KZ Fkatworm stop, check this out.

I had the bright idea to use flatworm stop as my iodine supplement over the last 6-7 weeks or so. I was dosing 3 ml per day for 300g. Well, thanks to oceamo ms ICP, I discovered an accumulation of copper. My level was 2.03, which isn’t super high, but my several prior ms ICP test were about .5 or so. That’s 4x the level in a short time. I suspected copper because the tank started to get the old school zeospur look on some corals. This didn’t make sense because my tank was running high nutrient and I even raised my lighting fixture. Colors should have been dark on these particular pieces.

I was dosing this stuff on and off at even higher dosages in the past, which makes sense to me now as to why some corals may have burned or not done well in the past. Back then I was running Ati oes tests which didn’t pick up the copper levels. A lot of old school reefers still dose this stuff not because of flatworms, because it really doesn’t do anything, but because there was always an added boost of color from it. In certain situations where a corals has an abundance of zoox, and additional of copper will lighten it up, and at the same time compromise more delicate corals. No thank you. Done with KZ secret sauce.

Im with you on flatworm stop. Everyone speaks highly of it so I tried it twice and after couple weeks everything starts looking questionable. Thought i had a bad bottle or something.

Where did you get that idea? They don't list ingredients anywhere I could find. It smells like vinegar to me, lol.
I run Flatworm stop on my ext 170 at 6ml a day. Tank is 1.5 years old and have been running it daily for over a year and still do today.
Never experienced anything bad and icp has been inline on the last 2. I dose iodine in my ato to keep it in range for reference.

From oes ICP tests last year saw that my iodine shot up with flatworm stop. It’s kind of know in the hobby that it contains iodine. I figured it would give some kind of added benefit to the corals with their secret ingredients or something lol.

I haven’t dosed flatworm stop in a year but decided to do so again for iodine. The difference this time is I am doing MS tests and it registers copper. OES tests don’t show copper until you get over 3ug/l.

The thing with these lower, high, levels of copper is not all corals will show a negative effect. Heck, some will look better with less zooxanthalle. The more sensitive corals to the copper IME are most tenuis and corals That look like Marvin the Martian or ora Bellina. Last year and this year I’ve had them go inexplicably pale or burned out of no where. High copper is the only anomaly that I was able to see. If you’re keeping a healthy colorful homewrecker and Disney I would think you’re fine because they were first to look drawn.

Which ICP tests do you do? If you’re not doing an MS ICP test your copper level is not correct. My oes would come up NA all the time. Actually many minor trace on OES kits don’t show up unless very high. I have also confirmed with reef moonshine that this product does an actually contain copper, and I know of a Florida coral grower who did the same thing that I did with the same result unfortunately.

I use ATI. Tank is doing well as has with use before. All colors look good.
Maybe I will run the other test alongside ATI Next run.
Honestly When I stop I see no difference so maybe stopping is not a bad idea.

Ati is fine, use their MS test and you’ll see quite a few minors show up where their Ati-oes shows NA. As long as no issues that’s great, but if this can save you a future mystery problem, it’s worth the extra $20. Honestly after seeing the differences between oes-ms tests, I would only use oes to confirm major elements. I wish I had these tests 20 years ago when I had tanks full of dying corals for no apparent reason lol.

I’ve been tuning in, not live yet. Just watching/listening while I’m doing tank stuff. Enjoyed first two episodes and look forward to this next one! Good content so far, definitely learning from it. Learning how much I don’t know. That’s the craziest part about this hobby. I’m trying real hard and have a pretty nice tank, but man. I’m barely scratching the surface of the knowledge I could have. It’s fun!
I’m specifically diving deep into the care and requirements of Acropora. The only coral I really want anything to do with anymore. Haha
