Jackson's Old School 200 IM Nuvo Ext

Dude... smokin'!

You sure appear to have everything dialed in. That's something that's not always so easy to do, as you know.

I, too, went to watch @Perry and @coral reeftank . Saw it was nearly four hours and decided I'll have to do it when I'm up, in the middle of the night. At four hours, you know there's going to be some great info from a couple of passionate guys!

Thanks! Yea bro, Alan is an old soul. I was killing corals before he was born, and now I listen to him to learn more about the hobby. He knows how to apply his teachings and principles into his life long hobby experience. We’re fortunate to have him aboard.

I got it from 5th alarm corals. They call it Cordyceps. I believe they told me that its an old Fiji acro. Very similar if not the same as POTO scorpion I think.

Hi Jackson
Following along, I noticed you mentioned you started the system with 100% Australian live rock and said that you pre-cured it before adding to the display. I am doing the same thing right now in a new system. I am starting. I’m wondering how long you cured the rock for and at what point did you transfer to the display and what made you decide it was ready to transfer to the display? I got roughly 100 pounds of Australian rock from a mixture of vendors, including tank stop and pristine marine aquaria.. I did however have a significant amount of die off on one of the batches and the curing barrel still currently reeks. I’m starting to do water changes on the curing barrel itself. I wouldn’t dare add the rocks to the display yet.

Hey bud, I initially had 92lbs from Jason as well. It was curing for about 3 months while I waited for my tank to be delivered. The first few weeks I did 2x 100% water changes. And then I just ran it with carbon and gfo when it cleaned up. Because I had the luxury of waiting, I actually put 200 par on the rocks for the last month to get the photosynthetic life going before starting the tank.

When the rock is ready you won’t have any smell or accumulation of nutrient. It would be trending lower or down to undetectable if you did a large water change on it. The Coraline came back strong within a couple of months. It’s a process but well worth it imo. Corals take off right away. None of the Dino’s and wait phase. I also ended up only using 70lbs in a 200g. They extra 20 or so was moved to another system. That rocks is very light for the volume.

The main display is now 2 years old. It’s been through several iterations already to move faster growers into other systems or sell/trade them off. Little by little I’m getting more smoothies growing nicely in here. They seems to really like halides.

This was filmed back in October. The tank has grown and recovered a lot since then from the KZ Flatworm stop induced copper spike. It was great to meet and talk with Josh. Super knowledgeable guy and a real hobbyist 👍

Dude you’re famous! Love the video. Amazing system, as I already knew from here and the podcasts.
Cool to have that high quality/professional footage of your system.

Haha. Reefing fame 😀 thanks brother. It’s certainly nice to have it documented like this for years to come. I always look back at my old systems and compare what was better and what is lacking to my current systems.

I remember when that coral blew up over on RC. Was quite the big deal. Cool video.
Oh yea. Guys were complaining about a $200 price tag back then on some of the sales lol. I hope I’m able to grow this one out, because another chance doesn’t likely exist. Thank you 👍

Just watched the video. Tank looked great! Congrats!
