I don't think it's about being a simplton, disagreeing, arguing, or insulting. It's just how many Jebao's to High end pumps are being sold? How long has jebao or jecod been around? Are they building a company or just pulling one over? I've seen some vast improvements with "jeboo" or the years and I'm slightly impressed with what I've seen. Kia didn't start with $50,000 cars. Kia started with crap throw aways that sold like hot cakes.
I actually wasn't even referring to Jebao with that comment. I wouldn't use an Ecotech pump on my return, either. All DC pumps need a controller. A controller is another possible failure point. DC pumps have their place but I want the simplicity and reliability of an AC pump for my return. I'll save the DC pumps for controlling flow through skimmers, reactors, closed loop systems and powerheads.

That is something I'll consider in the future! I purchased a DC return mostly because it was my first and foremost me being ignorant to the amount of flow needed. Convenient though, in that I was able to adjust the flow to where it should be. The feed timer helps too. It's worked great for me thus far. Once a controller and new tank are at hand, an AC pump will be considered. FWIW jebao makes AC pumps, too. :p @Diesel I like high end pumps too, just out of my immediate price range, unfortunately. :(

Any pump could do the same, but the Jebao can be replaced 3 times for the cost of the others at this point.
Very true. Besides, it not a vital piece of equipment, its just your return pump. Not like a piece of equipment that could completely crash the tank and cause you to loose all your livestock!

Yes, that was meant to sound as as ridiculous as it reads.

Sumps aren't necessarily necessary. So technically were are adding to to an equation that could fail at any given time.

We drifting of topic here.
Point is that we talking a return pump that is from a manufacture that doesn't give a good CS or not at all if you have a problem with it.
For that I wouldn't have that brand at all on my system even if they were a $1.00.

As far as what is necessarily necessary................. is the whole hobby in it's total but that's just ridicules to bring that up............ or is it??

I don't know, Diesel. Next time I have a kid and i spend $10k on automatic feeders, automatic butt wipes, automatic beddy by time book readers, and something fails, I'll blame it on the brand.

If you want the best reliability in a return pump, then use an external pump set up.(GEN-X) My oldest is 20 years old at least. The other one I have is around 10 years old now.(Blueline) All original parts.

P1000838.JPG Gen-X 20 years at least and all original parts too.

If I run into you at a show, I'll buy you a beer. I saw a comment you made on a thread about micro nano-bubbling. Decided to try it. I can't believe more people don't do it! Such an easy thing, cheap, and yet incredibly effective!

I had some problems with power supplies on Jebao return pumps although they never failed intermittently. The replacement power supplies were only like $15. After a while I stopped running them on the highest power setting and haven't had a problem since. Hope that helps.

:cool::cool::cool::cool:Area has been cleaned up since. The sump( Brand Le Mar) is also as old as that pump.(GEN-X) 20+ years.( Both out of production):( That pic was taken in 2014 and the pump is still in service. I use vinyl tubing for ease of use and so I can change anytime without using glues etc. This post has been informative so far.:D:D:D (PS I bought a spare pump(same one) over 7 years ago and is still brand new in the orig.box.)

The pump is actually really good. I took a chance and got it after my mag pump died. The startup is great, but you are right about the broken pumps. I have parts of about 6 of the wavemakers, I can maybe make 2 good ones from all the parts, but now i'm a Vortech fan all the way.

I was going to try another PSU from ebay or something just to see. I also have tried running on lower settings also, i'll let you know what happens.

Once I go larger, with a bigger sump, I'll be able to cut a hole for external pumps. That one looks like its pretty mean!

You made me smile this morning................ VORTECH!!
I have 4 QD 40 on my DT, have 4 WES 40 on my frag tanks, 1 QD 10 on the 60 cube, 1 wes 10 in my sump of my DT to keep it clean and 1 WES 10 in the frag sump to do the same, as I have 2 QD 40 as backup and 1 QD 10 as backup.
Than I have 6 QD 40 wet sides as maintenance when I have to clean the dirty ones and I just replace and clean them later with vinegar.
I also run a M1 Vectra on my lifereef skimmer in the DT and the same on the lifereef skimmer on my frag system, and as returns I use the L1 Vectra on both systems and yes I have 1 M1 and 1 L1 as backup.
If that's not enough Ecotech Marine I have only two radions on my one frag tank and the other frag tank has nothing as I gave those away to help out a friend and the tank was empty of corals.
My Ecotech friends want me back on the full LED train and are ready to send me 5 Gen 4 pro's for my DT and I'm debating if I should take that offer and dump the ATI hybrid as I'm have only LPS as of now and got rid of my SPS colonies.

Very interesting, but my return pump is not as important as some others' tanks. I also use a HOB and have good flow in my tank. A simple change of the pump is not a big deal and my Jebao DCT6000 has not failed or given me a problem. Customer service does nothing for me if my pump is broken as it would take a day or two for them to get me a new one even if it was free, but it won't be free outside the warranty period. I formerly used a SICCE and it never failed in over 3 years before I replaced it because it was louder than the Jebao. I also work on a tighter budget than a bunch of reefers here so I go for what works at the lowest price point and in this case it was a Jebao. Ecotech marine sounds like a great brand, but by the time I purchased all of their equipment I could have 3-5 tanks running. If money was not a problem, then I would probably try some of the high end equipment, but I have a successful running tank with mostly Hydor products which have not failed in over 4 years now.

I use a sicce pump to mix water. I have a pair of Accela pumps for back up. You're correct in that it's loud. I know they make "silent" ones now, from when I purchased mine. My skimmer has a sicce and it's a beast! I too have a back-up Jebao pump for my return. For wavemakers I've had better luck with the PP series over the RW series.
