I am trying to find a wavemaker for my 20g cube. Currently running a sicce nano 270gph as that was the lowest I could get at my lfs. No matter where it is placed there is way to much current. I have been running my pump alone which is 250gph and has been doing a good enough job. However I am noticing some dead spots and ontop of my rock work where my sps are definitely can use more flow.

I found the slw-3 but cannot find anything about it online. Also seems the only place I can get it is through Amazon.

Does anyone have info on it? What is the lowest you can set it to?

Can I ask why you think 270 gph is too much flow in a 20? Is the sand flying around? My 15 gallon softie tank has 2 x 535 powerheads.

Your 270 gph divided by 20 gallon tank is 13x turnover, which should be fine. The recommendation for very minimum is 10x turnover, so your already at the minimum that's why I'm asking why you want even lower. Personally I think 20x-30x is better for tank health.

how is your powerhead positioned? Ideally it should be close to the top of the tank, pointed upwards to create some surface agitation., you don't want a flat water surface.

I really like the DLW series pumps from Jebao/Jecod. They have a much wider flow pattern than most pumps, so they're good for small tanks that need flow that dissipates quickly to move the entire volume without blasting whatever is right in front of them. The power can be adjusted, and they have different wave modes as well. I use two DLW-20 pulsing at 40% on my 25g, but they make a smaller DLW-5 and DLW-10 as well. The SLW you mentioned seems to have a similar prop design, but I don't know how it performs in practice. There is also this very tiny ZKSJ pump with a similar design, but I think it would be better for pico tanks.

Oh dont get me wrong. I dont think its too much in terms of numbers, it physically creates way to much current. I have been battling this issues since I set my tank up as I want more flow in terms of numbers it just does not work.

I have tried positioning it on all three sides of the tank (back is not possible) and no matter how it is positioned (low, high, pointed down or straight up at the surface) it thrashes all my softies, euphillia and lps corals in the mid to low section of the tank. So much that they all retract. Since turning off the wavemaker I have seen substantial growth and extension on all my corals except the sps on the top of my rock structure.

Thank you for the info. I only looked into the slw-3 because it was the smallest I could find. I will look into the down series!
