What’s up reef2reef, been on this forum for awhile but really haven’t posted much. Figured I will do a build thread for my new tank. I’ve been in saltwater for about 3 yrs now. Last tank I had was a 240 gallon. It was my ultimate dream tank but soon turned into a chore. I had it up for about a yr before I lost interest and regretted my decision by going that big. I ultimately broke down the tank and sold everything. About 3 months went by and I was enjoying my freedom away from the hobby. All of a sudden I got the itch again. We all know once you get that itch it won’t go away till you scratch it [emoji4]. This time I decided to do things differently. I decided to go with a Red Sea reefer 350. Felt like it was the perfect compromise of not to big or not to small. It’s going to be a slow build just for the simple fact I’m going to Hawaii for a week in July. I don’t want to worry about the tank when I’m gone so I’m going to put everything together slowly. Once I get back it’s on like donkey Kong.
Tank- Red Sea reefer 350
Sump- going to stick with the sump it came with
Lights- Aurora 48” t-5 hybrid Giesemann
(Ordered 2 ati blues, 1 ati coral plus, and 1 Giesemann super actinic) going to role with this color combo and see how I like it.
Powerheads- 2 vortech mp-40’s
Skimmer- Reef octopus regal 200
Pump- reef octopus dc pump
Controller- new apex
Ato- ordered the tunze 3155
I also ordered a 5 gallon trigger ato container
For my 240 I used 2 ati 8 bulb t5 hybrid fixtures. Love those lights. The reason I went with the Giesemann for this build is because in every marriage there’s compromise. I was told if I got another tank, no more hanging lights lol so Giesemann was the only one who offered a hybrid model with legs you could mount.
I’m really picky when it come to equipment. For powerheads I’ve ran the Neptune wavs, mp 40’s, gyres and jebaos. All are great powerheads but I went with the vortechs again for the battery backup option. I know the gyres have an option as well but I just get tired of cleaning them so much so they’ll run efficiently.
Skimmer was a no brainer, absolutely love reef octopus skimmers [emoji1303]
Anyways enough talking, here’s a couple pics of my old tank and my slow progression on the new tank!
