Hey!

I just started treatment with Chloroquine Phosphate as well as my fallow period. I read a lot about CP and I am very confident it is pure enough and that I dosed it correctly since I used a digital scale in milligrams (the one in the CP Thread... really good one). Thank you so much @Humblefish and @melypr1985 for your dedication and time you put on those posts!

Long story short... Bought a PBT and came with ich or velvet... Died within a week and the rest of my fish started to die as well (including clowns). I took them all to a QT abd treating with CP for 30 days.

My biggest concern is with the mandarin. He is a biota and not used to eat too much frozen and the 76 days fallow period is going to be hard for me and for the mandarin. What do you recommend me? Hatch brine shrimp?

Another question that I have is... I added these fished to the QT few days before I added medication, which means there could be cysts or eggs on the bottom. The treatment is for 30 days, and the rest of the fallow period will be with no medication. My fear is that they get infected after treatment if they stay in the same tank. Should I buy another sterile tank with a new filter for the rest of the period? or is the CP going to kill any cysts?

How soon should I see improvement in health (especially the white dots in the skin)? to make sure the treatment is working..

Can I also do Hiposalibity in addition to the CP treatment or is that going to be too much?

Sounds like it could be velvet if it killed fish that fast.

Biota mandarin are supposed to eat prepared foods even flakes, at least that’s what the claim is. Where did you get it from? If you look up on algaebarn or LiveAquaria you can see what foods they recommend.

CP will kill encysted parasites once they move to the free swimming phase so no need to worry about introducing fish before. No need for a sterile tank. Just observe after you do water change following treatment. @HotRocks is doing a shorter than 30 day treatment with success, I believe?

You should see white dots disappear within 3-4 days up to 7.

No don’t do hiposalinity with CP, too much stress.

Good luck!

Edit: clarified point about cp mechanism of action

Thank you!

I bought it from AlgaeBarn, he was very very small and didn't eat anything except live baby brine shrimp. I released him to the tank so he could get some weight and never trained him. I culture pods for him and he was happy. I hope he makes it!

That looks like it could be velvet or severe ich but also some bacterial infection. I would give all fish an acriflavine bath (ruby rally) before starting CP if possible. You also want to start treatment ASAP.

30 days would be rough on the mandarin with CP killing the food. As mentioned above, it can be done in less time, but you will need another sterile tank and move the fish out of the CP after 10-14 days. For a mandy I'd personally go that route, and if doing so might as well for all if the second tank is big enough. But at least any pods or baby brine will last longer so it can eat.
