Going to start documenting this build.

Been in and out of the hobby. Had to sell my 75g pre covid. Got married, bought new house, just had a baby. A lots changed but I caught the bug again.

Wife knows this stuff takes time and money so she wasn't thrilled. For her sake I kept the tank small. Enter the UNS 90LA.

20 gallon Aio peninsula.

Built the stand myself


Got water in it and started the cycle 4/12


Got clowns in. 4/22

Tank ran for a month with just the clowns. Started to get algae dots so I added the Cuc

And added a Yasha goby and acan 5/25

Good time for a quick Fts. Thanks for the reminder.

The snails and hermits are doing a good job keeping the uglies down for now.

Added a frammer, couple zoa morphs, and a red Monti cap as a tester.

Also a pink streaked wrasse as the last fish.

I like your Rock Work. I recently set up a 90LA of my own at home and took a similar approach of multiple smaller islands. Let me know how the wrasse ends up doing, I have been eyeing one for a while now. How is the AI Blade doing?

Awesome. I like the dimensions of the tank you'll enjoy it as well I'm sure.

I had a pink streaked years ago in a 20 gal as well and he did amazing. They are pigs so they take to feeding well.

The blade seems to be doing well. The form factor is by far the biggest pro for it being on this specific tank. I wish it had a little more spectrum options (red,green,cyan) but i think power wise it can handle anything in this shallow of a tank. I do need to rent a par meter though.

Definitely make a build thread for yours so we can compare and learn from each other. Having a UNS representative will be nice for the forums, it should be a more popular brand.

Edit: My only gripe so far on the 90LA is the teeth of the return are pretty limited. I have to turn down the stock pump quite low as to not exceed what the return teeth can handle. Let me know if I'm missing something perhaps?

Still up in the air. I really want to do Acros, but with an 8 month old baby currently its tough to commit to that. I might limp the tank along with lps and softies until the kid gets a little older.

Added spongodes, stylo, pocci and blue hornets. Little early in the game but worth a shot.

Actually sad update. All the fish got velvet except the goby. I set up a hospital tank with copper and lost the pink streaked wrasse. Clowns are looking rough and goby is looking rough as well. Going to have to go fallow and try to save these fish.

Update. The goby did not survive another day after that original post. The clowns survived qt and they are still there for a little over a week.l more. That will be 60 days fallow in the display.

I plan to put the clowns back and let the tank ride like that for awhile. Eventually with a goal of adding a pink streaked wrasse again. The pod population and microfauna population has exploded.

Alk has been steady between 7.6 and 8 for the 2 months I have been testing. Keeping steady with AFR.

P04 has been borderline undetectable for those same 2 months. So for the last month I have been dosing .02ppm a day of neophos. Testing twice a week and occasionally get as high as that. 02 but right back to zero the next test.

The corals are still pretty pale but recovering now that there is at least some transient p04 going through the system.

I have been dosing a drop of ammonium chloride every day to keep the back population active and with the intention of keeping that available for the corals as well.

With the clowns set to return to the game next week here are some current pictures.

Quick update: Haven't added anything since the Velvet event. The clowns have been back in for about a month at this point and everything is doing good. Quick picture to show colors are still improving on the corals


Everything has been super stable. P04 still is undetectable if i don't dose it back to .02 every day. I'm hoping that will level off eventually so i can take a break dosing it.

I plan to add a pink streaked wrasse this week and maybe pickup a few new corals. Really on the lookout for a tubbs stellata, green slimer, and a blue digi or another blue stick.

Is that the Pocci (blueish green), second from the right? Do you know the specific name ? I'm new to SPS and I really like the look of it.

Yes sir. Also the same as the top picture as my most recent post. Its colored up and grown well. I have found tiny colonies of it (about 5) that it has spread around. Interesting to see if that will annoy me in the future.

I do like it. Its about what you would expect. It only being 12 tall limits what heaters you can use though. (Since the water level in the back chambers is much lower.)

ahhh decisions decisions! how have you felt about the stock pump? Think it'll eventually get upgraded?
