I am a fan of drilling and using fiberglass or acrylic rod to hold things together. Currently waiting on rest of fish to finish quarantine. And then on to quarantining Corals. fullsizeoutput_b04.jpeg

I avoid any sort of attachment mechanism so that I can easily move and re-scape as necessary. Pick up a rock with a colony of some cool coral on it? Might next to move a rock that's already there to make it work. I like the fluidity of being able to tweak or re-arrange things.

Finally, on my fourth build, I decided to "suspend" all of my large base rocks on drilled, 3/8 clear acrylic rod. Each have 3-4 legs that are long enough for them to float on the sand. Some of the rocks are attached together but most are not.

I am old school on keeping the sand bed clean. (Or is DSB old school? I dunno, I lose track)

Anyway, every two weeks I blast the crap out of my sand and the rock during my 20% WC. This i could not always do when the rock was on the sand. And I have always used a lot of rock. My engineer goby can move as much sand as he likes and I don't have to worry.
