Really? Help me understand. I buy a 350 dollar light, maintain it and at the end of warranty it dies.

Now my choice is a minimum off a 100.00 + 40.00 dollars to maybe fix it, could be more, (freight both ways. 20.00 x 2. ) Or I can spend at least 250 , plus the 140. So the new estimated number is 390.

Or I can go to local shop and spend 350 and trash this light.

Sweet.

Im a designer for work. In the good ole days things were just over built instead of the added cost of eng hrs to calculate when materials will fail. Enter new age my software I can calculate things to last a certain length of time. I left a company we started using solidworks to run calculations for steel to corrode with a certain time frame. Apply that to easy to hide electronics. Ching ching

That's why I dont buy this uber high dollar equip. No offense to kessil I think they make nice lights

Getting a blower and a can of the coating. Going to do all my Kessils. Appreciate all the help.
one last note. The blower gets hot fast. I never use it for more than about 2-3 minutes at a time. Says not to in the instructions (in case you dont read them).

I like my nanobox lights as all parts are readily available to replace should something happen or fail but they have always been reliable for me even in our harsh salt environments.

I even upgraded an older storm nanobox to bluefish by buying the board from nanobox and the other parts from a led store.

Bigger SPS tanks need t5 with the LEDs though to make it cost effective.

I see posts like this about how you have to send your lights back in and have them do it for a big fat fee. No thanks.

Pretty sure a person can even replace the LEDs in a china box.

They are made by hand in the USA hence all the parts are easily found. For large tanks they are paired with a ATI fixture or any fixture you want custom done.

You can easily find many successful beautiful tanks using them.

I had sb reefs but on the new setup I just run viparspectra 165w. I might modify the layout to sb reef, but probably won't need to. I feel the sb reefs provide the best value.
Sb reefs ?

Going to get in touch with them tomorrow, I have a retro t-5 fixture coming tomorrow. Hey, thsnks !

No problem...the light I hung above my 80g I had him make from a coralvue fixture over 5 years ago and it still works like the day I bought it. No overheating.... No broken LEDs but all easily replaced should it come to that.

In fact I had him put an oversized heatsink in it so the fans are optional and not needed so I don't bother to run them. Peace and quiet and no dust bunnies.

Just to clarify, you're saying these products, like the Kessil and other lights, are literally designed to fail after a certain time frame? That's terrible, especially from an environmental standpoint.

That was an old post and pure speculation on their part. Ask anyone who owns Tunze products how well they’ve held up. I have several Kessil’s still going strong after many years of use, but we’re putting these things next to very corrosive conditions. If you don’t care for the equipment, don’t expect things to last long.
