I have a Red Sea Reefer 425 XL. I have found myself busy lately and been slacking on my water changes. Algae has taken over big time. I am going to pick back up on my water changes but would a refugium be a possible help to removing some nutrients 24/7 where my tank may only be lit at a limited duration during the day? Any help would be appreciated.

That will help. What are you nitrates and phosphates. Chemipure blue and chemipure elite media bags will help as well. I use them when my fuge & skimmer can’t handle the current nutrient level.

Don't feel bad about letting the tank go for a while. I have certainly been there ! Cleanup is all very doable. Many ways to do this . A sump with good size refugium would be a big help. Also water changes, ,items Hemmdog speaks of etc. Let us know what You decide as a 1st step .

Phosphates are about .1 and nitrates have been around 15ppm. I'm sure the algae is taking up a lot of it so I'm sure my problem is worse than the numbers are showing.

That’s not to bad. How stocked is your clean up crew?

I only have a couple hermits left, several large Mexican turbo snails. and a handful each of nassarius and trochus. I also have two large emerald crabs, a lawnmower blenny and yellow tang.
