Large anemones cipro HELP

Caught the end of a stress spawn/purge I think so I did a water change and administered meds. Literally within 30 seconds it’s stressed spawned again (water and temp and salinity are all constant as I make 30 gallons at a time)

This guy is going on like 12-13 days of treatment with all of his deflations at this point being a stress spawn. Do I take the chance to put it in my display? It’s still pooping quite a bit but no black pellets

You have any other carpets in the display? I wouldnt risk it if so. Maybe its having adverse reaction to meds?

After some thinking I do think most of these purges have been stress spawns and I think the yellow haddoni I took out might be indicative of that since it has never deflated(still expelling some little zoox pellets but I don’t think an amount to be worried about)



The large anemone did stress spawn it looked like again so I did a water change and it of course stress spawned again so now I’ve gotta do another WC and re administer more meds. Would you guys just keep this cycle up? At what point if any would it be better to place in an established tank given it seems to be stress spawning so much? In addition to my 50 gallon anemone tank I do also have a 120 gallon mixed reef with no anemones so I could theoretically place him in there in a basket given there’s not many accounts of the bacterial infections these guys get spreading to other things

Sorry I thought my message deleted so I retyped it. I actually have 2 tanks. 1 with all my carpets and another 100 gallon mixed reef but no anemones so I was thinking I might try and place him in there. Gonna do another WC change


Really debating between placing him in a basket in my 120 where if he purged again it wouldn’t be a problem and no anemones or doing a night with no antibiotics

Additionally with the little yellow guy. If he’s never deflated and has never had a open mouth and went through 7 days of antibiotics BUT is still expelling little black pellets(maybe 3-4 tiny pellets, 2 times a day) would you guys just continue to observe in a qt tank?

I would keep both in their QTs and continue to observe. You don't want them expelling dead zoox into the DT. I suspect that the dead zoox might contain the pathogen that's causing the infection/sickness. Healthy anemones don't expel pellets, it's usually a brownish mucous-like substance.

Well unfortunately the large anemone died. However it’s made me rethink my process for QTing large anemones because the big guy came in looking great and over the course of the meds declined. Given that I have 2 set up reef tanks, 1 without any anemones and then my carpet anemone tank I am going to just place any more of them in my non anemone tank if they look good on arrival and if they require treatment then I’ll treat in a qt. The yellow haddoni is still looking great and I have since placed in my main anemone tank. Honestly I don’t know what went wrong with the gig. The yellow haddoni never deflated and persisted fine through all the big anemones deflations so whatever was afflicting it wasn’t affecting the small one or the small one was a carrier for something the large one didn’t have enough tolerance for. Next time I get such a big gig in I think I’d have to switch the water every 12 hours even if no deflation if it’s in a 10 gallon

I’ll keep this thread updated or create a new one for the progression of the yellow carpet anemone but I think this may be a real deal yellow carpet anemone not a bleached green or even neon green one it’s that bright. I don’t think I’ve seen any brighter coral to be completely honest, even my deepwater Japanese neon anemone looks bland next to it. The photo almost looks doctored but then when u see how dark even the red haddoni, gsp, and sun coral looks you can get a sense of how bright it is. No filter was used

Well the hunt for another gig continues, really hope someone conducts some research into whatever pathogen is affecting these guys.
