Large oscar feeding amount

Hi!

My oscar recently chowed down on two of my fully grown pearl gourami's. Ugh.
Not sure if I'm feeding him enough. At the moment I feed him 4-6 times per week. Roughly 6-8 pellets each feeding (Hikari cichlid gold Large 7.2-8.2mm), then some flakes and whatever amount of granule he manages to grab. I'd say all in all, equivalent to 8 pellets average 4-6 times per week, and around 1-2 large algae wafers per week (not for him, but he usually manages to steal one).
Is this enough?

I can't say i'm an expert on oscars, but i did have one about 20 years ago. I typically fed mine 1 to 2 times weekly with goldfish. Mine was about 4 inches when i gave him away. For a 8" oscar, that doesn't seem to be enough food. Plus part of the fun was watching him devour the goldfish.:)

Oscars will eat anything that will fit in there mouth! Big fish eat little fish, that’s how it works. Feeding more will help some. Earth worms, crickets, super worms and larger pellets. Black worms too!

I would feed mine raw fish/shrimp/pallets and sometimes freeze dried worm cubes daily no need to feed it any diseased unhealthy feeder fish..... Especially goldfish that’s like feeding it three day old McDonald’s every day and when they get big they get grumpy and might not like friends so best to just keep a pair.... Sometimes that doesn’t even work out though

8 inches is not full grown. I’ve had a few over the years and they can get huge. As stated, anything they can fit in their mouth they will. Between my red Oscar, Arawana, spotted cat and clown knife fish I went through about 200 hundred feeder goldfish in a month. They would eat more if I let them. Pigs with fins!!
Fascinating fish though. Loved the clownfish! They were in a 240 and outgrowing it when I tore it down and moved. Sold them off and stayed dry for years.

Sooo, I gotta feed him more?
How much in equivalent 7-8mm pellets? (Largest my pet store has). Not doing feeder fish. He gets some bloodworms 1-2 times per week as well, then a mix of those 4 dry foods.

He doesn't exactly look skinny imo, but I'll attach a photo soon.

Looks pretty healthy to me. Nice full gut. Pretty fish too. Try finding a source of other foods if you can. If you know someone who fishes maybe get the leftovers, cheek meat and such, egg sacks, raw shrimp pieces, clams etc.... typical cichlid, garbage can appetite. Eats anything.

Heard those meats have very little nutrition?

Don't dare feed him raw fish. High risk for parasites.

Doesn't look like I'm underfeeding him like previously mentioned?

EDIT: Could get some raw white fish meat from local supermarket. Anything I should watch out for? Also noticed that all shrimp, even raw, seem to have salt on their ingredients list. Is that safe?

I agree that's a great looking oscar. Looks like it's doing just fine.

Shrimp pellets would be a good addition. A few different companies make them.

Most raw or fresh frozen seafood should be okay. Maybe once a week?
