Some new photos.

I have a copper band in my aquarium and they use to love feather dusters (polychaete worms). I have had rather much of the tiny white polychaete worm in parts there this fish can´t reach them but the last months - they have disappear even at these hidden places.

A week ago - i discover them again - now in small small thin cracks in my stone. They grow in places there my Copperband can pick them - but it seems that it is not interested of them.

Yesterday - I was visiting my old job and took some pictures and a video. 10/12 2022 this new exhibition was opened and its a little bit than 3 years ago. We had saved and farmed our old corals from - in the end - a 20 cubic meters aquarium. The corals was in a small farming facility - total water volume about 20 cubic meters. With start a couple of days before the opening day - they was placed out in this 400 cubic aquarium. Some of the original corals was out-growing separately for two years - but was you see here is basically from individuals we had 7 years ago in that 20 cubic aquarium. In a couple of years they will be near the goal set back in 2019 - to build one of the best coral exhibition in the world. Its already pretty good

To all of you that still believe the myth that whatever the size of the aquarium - it can only hold one Chromis viridis - is not true - it was around 200 individuals 3 years ago - still around 200

Awesome Lasse,
You truly have a wet green thumb. Green thumb means you can grow things and I added wet to match to the corals you were a caretaker for. Perhaps in the future I could visit this incredible aquarium. If not we have your pictures and videos!

Since the start in December 2022 - it's not my green thumbs. I quit the same day it opened because I was 7 years older than my retirement age. Its the whole team with David Sällström as the leading coral expett that has done this very good work.

@Lasse that is some great growth at what looks like at least 5m of depth. What is the lighting set-up?
As i remember - its around 4 m deep and 5 m from the fixtures to the bottom. Its around 50 pcs of Orphek 500 Amazon They are mounted in a type of traverse of plastic that also is used as cable channel

Edit: Funny fact: I start the sentence above the pictures with As but I spell it with to ss - the inbuild censor in R2R change it to But and the sentence got crazy - But I remember instead of As I remember😁😆😁

I very fondly recall following along while David and you did your work at the new aquarium before it opened. I never did write to him, after the last time I said I would, as I lost his contact information.

Nope - This is from the new aquarium at Sjöfartsmuseet Gothenburg I was part of the team that build this a couple of years ago. The sharks are full-grown females of black tip shark. They was born in a German aquarium for some years ago.

You know why I cannot forget @Lasse 's birthday. Don't you, Frank @fishguy242 ?
Sorry I didn't get the hint before - congratulations even to you - but I suppose that I´m many years before you in the leap to eternity😂

Thanks Lasse!

One never really knows about the eternity leap. Especially given the idea that I led a somewhat "colorful" existence for a lot of years. Who knows, maybe we'll check out on the same day too!

An answer from an discussion in another thread. I publish it here instead of derailing the other thread

do not tell us to what degree the system is actually using carbon this way.
June 2024 daily dosage of ethanol around 15 ml/day (481/30)

1773391172246.png

July 2024 daily dosage around 22 ml/day (660/31)

1773391190907.png

Aug 2024 daily dosage around 29 ml ethanol (898/31)

1773391219099.png

All three months

1773391283825.png

Since a half a year ago I have change my way of circulating of the water circulate through the sand bed. Now it will run for 30 min - stop for 30 min. I dose when it runs. Its seems that this is more effective - I only dose around 20 ml/day and keep the NO3 around 3-4 mg/L

1773391334474.png

I`ll think that I have rather dry boots in this question😂

I don’t deny carbon dosing removes nitrate. This can occur in the water quite easily.

My concern is that you don’t provide evidence to support the idea that the nitrate is being converted to N2 rather than to biomass as it presumably is when dosing carbon to aquarium water.

The sand bed is anaerobic and anaerobic growth will not rise as high biomass in these short times that I show here. Its denitrification IMO.

Sometimes you chose to use equipment's in a way its not intended to be used but solve a problem. In nearly all
active GFO filters, the water flow is from the bottom up.

One problem that at least I have had with GFO filters is that they clog due to particles and bacterial growth – and this means that the lifespan of your GFO media will be shorter.

You can solve the problem of bacterial film on the GFO media itself by having synthetic filter cotton at the bottom of the reactor, but it would be very inconvenient to change this without having to take the media itself out into the sink. I have an Aquaforest Media reactor 90 and it is possible to reverse the flow from going from bottom to top to going from top to bottom in this reactor and thus have the synthetic filter cotton at the top - easy to change without causing problems. I change the synthetic filter cotton every ten days.

I have now been doing this for over six months and it has worked well and the time between changes of the GFO media has increased.
