Why is the depth important (beyond just being submerged?

The top of the Oxydator pot is around 5 cm below the surface but in a part of the sump with high flow. What I understand it works well but I suspect that if it was deeper – the mixing between the rising O atoms or O2 gas and the water will be better. The contact time will be longer. But I do not really know because – in my case – 2,500 l/h pass by the oxydator – the mix will probably be good anyway.

Ok, so it's an effectiveness thing, as opposed to a safety issue. Thanks

The 10 watts multichip 730 – 740 nm I order for a couple of weeks ago has arrived. Next step in the very well planned operation was to have something I could attach the chip to – and that this “something” also should be good to work as a passive cooler. A deep dive in the “good to have” box come up with some type of heatsink – something I had forgot I had.

Well – now I need a driver – a new dive – and lucky me – I had some small 900 mA drivers that I took away from another DIY – half a year ago.

The pictures show the construction – I skip a splash guard for the moment – the plan is to use this construction for a 2 months test after Christmas.

The evil plan is now to place this point source of 730-740 nm just over one of my bird’s nest and probably I will place it over the one I got 7 weeks ago. It has start to develop a “bushy” phenotype – I will let it continue with this transition some more weeks and after that start to give it a daily dose of far red.

The smart thing with this construction is that I will limit the far red only to one corner of the aquarium. Nothing else will be changed for this coral – just adding some new wavelenghts.

Today I saw something between the spines of my black urchin.

crab1.jpg

It looks like he/she had picked up something. However – a closer look revealed that this “something” was moving around – it was a crab. In 17 months – I have not seen this guy before and have no clue where he/she come from.

But on the other hand – after 3 years with my old aquarium – a large Teddy Bear crab show up – and with large – I mean large.

Google is your friend - it looks like it is a zebra crab from the genus of Zebrida. These crabs are associated with urchins. But where does it comes from? I introduce two white decorating urchins for 7 weeks ago - but I did not see any crab on them. This urchin Diadema setosum has been in the aquaria for nearly 1.5 year - never seen any crab on him/her either. This crab seems to be linked to a red type of urchins - I had one of those one year ago - maybe it was a small hitchhiker at that time. But where has it been the last year?

But this is what I love with this hobby - and if I can have this crab with my urchin - I should be very glad

@Brew12 - you was faster :)
