Apologies if this is the wrong forum subsection to ask this. Whats a safe amount of Lathanium Chloride to dose into the skimmer body to ensure full dilution? My pump can only dose 48 doses per day, I am trying to maximize the amount per dose without going too far and having Lathanium leach into the tank. Thanks ahead of time.

When I dosed i did 2-3 drops a week to keep my phos .01 - .3 In a 100g , just so you are aware of its potency

I would not assume you can entirely prevent lanthanum particles or dissolved ions entering the tank regardless of how much or how little you add.

I assumed you would say that Randy, and yes, I agree, and I am using polyfilter. But what would be a safe dose you would recommend?

Can you elaborate more on your current situation, I am intrigued. :beaming-face-with-smiling-eyes: What size is your tank, what's your po4 reading and how much do you need to bring it down per week?
System volume is 240g, Po4 is between 2 and 3 ppm... high range test is not very precise at that range. Been trying to lower it with a combo of GFO + Algae Scrubber + Carbon Dosing, no effect.

Have you discovered the cause for such high phosphates?

Not sure about your tank but is there any reason you don't just dose enough to bring it down 0.1 per day for 3 to 4 weeks and slowly get it back to where you want it? That way you'll safely be able to dose small amounts per day and keep your tank friends safe.

Using a doser you are sure to kill fish doing this. Just dose a couple of drops every couple of hours . This stuff is wicked. If you can’t do that do a couple in the morning and then a couple in the evening. Or whatever your schedule allows.

As a reference, I use TLF's Phosban-L and 2ml (diluted at 2:1) brings down my Po4 by 0.1 in roughly 100g tank, so I just do that as maintenance when it creeps up. It's potent stuff. Go slow, it'll kill your animals.

Guys I appreciate the conversation, but would like to keep it on topic. I am trying to find out what the maximum single dose is.

I did the calculation already, I am using Tropic Marin Elimi-Phos Rapid and I will need to dose 200 ml to get to my desired level.

It would be best to dose into your tank overflow and catch it with 5 micron sox in the sump. This will maximize contact time to help get lanthanum reacted and hopefully prevent from getting to the dt. And trap the floculant in the sox.
Key is to dilute whatever lc you are using*, 100:1 with rodi. Then drip slowly, 1 drop per second.
Make sure to run your skimmer.

Lc is the best way for that level of po4.

*this assumes a product suitable for reef tanks, not swimming pools.

Tried that, 5 micron sock gets clogged within hours. Had to wash twice per day, not an option for me unfortunately.

Um yes, that is the way. Unless you want the lanthanum floculant in your dt with your fish.
Why cant you wash twice per day?
Sounds like you have the right plan already.

I work long hours... it's a guaranteed way to get it into the DT when it overflows.

That is true. Perhaps you can dedicate a weekend or days off.

Or find the dose that almost clogs the sox and drip that while you are at work.
I use 2 little fishes Phosban L.
20 ml diluted into a liter rodi and dripped over 8 hours clogs 7" sox twice. So id try 8 ml per sox for my 125 total gallons.
I use this for drip

They clog just by the tank, without the LC dosing. I am set on a path of dosing into the skimmer, just want to find out the amount.
