Where as the red led do hit the secondary spike this can still be achieved with the warm white LED, with the addition with hitting the primary spike. You will lose all of the blue spectrum in every red diode used.

As far as when people were using all blue and white..... The unnatural unpleasant look was caused by using a mix of 450nm and cool white LED alone. We have learned a lot since then and that's why more often than not cool white will be the minority in the mix. Using a wide range of purple and blue (400nm-460nm) along with a mix of warm, neutral, and cool white have remedied this problem without using red and green specifically.

What's gonna really be the difference between the cree bulbs and the bridgealux? Besides price. Anyone know anything about that?

Not enough for any concern. They're both great LED
I agree with that, but there are others that are gonna get into bin numbers and really technical stuff. But in the long run, I don' think its going to make a difference.

Normally this happens when vendors get into the conversation and try to prove their brand is superior

Here's what I know I'm never gonna have 10 thousand in corals. I work way to much to do that stuff so. I'll be just fine with a 500 dollar light that does its job. Verses a grand.

Doubt it really. On a positive note I made a 3 piece sump for myself and have 3 people paying me to make them one so that's win!

Ah, but even if you did, the no name LEDs are gonna grow those corals just as good as the big name ones.

Fwiw, I have full spectrum cheap eBay leds, basically the same as reef breeders, which I also have. I love them & will never look back. I went full spectrum because I had diy previously that had each color individually controlled. Each color adds a lot to the way the coral looks to humans. Maybe not so much for par value, but par isn't everything. Also iirc cyan made the biggest difference reflexively, & red brought out colors I never could get without it.

Rick of Reef Radiance will do any combo you want :) Don't want red/green/yellow just say so :) I think it's like an extra $20. Still a heck of a lot cheaper!

Honestly if the guy says he's got the best assortment of lights in there he's got than I'll stick with his setup. Sounds like he's pretty well respected.

I am going to ask him if he thinks I should do anything special to his light to be the best it can be for my specific tank though being 36" deep has to change things vs a short long tank.
