thanks, i like the MH but hard getting ballasts and bulbs. I change bulbs every 6 months and have tried every manufacturer even chinese and just used my last spare ballast.I run this exact light hanging 17" off the water on a 180 6x2x2 and have been running it almost 2 years with no issues. I don't think you can go wrong with Reefbreeders. I would also suggest keeping the Halides if you like them... I sure do miss mine at times.

Ah, yeah this is true unfortunately. When it all finally disappears, it'll be an end of an era so to speak. I'll always miss Halides, nothing beats them imo but that's another topic.thanks, i like the MH but hard getting ballasts and bulbs. Why are you recommending 2 fixtures instead of the 1?I would get 2 fixtures if you want the photons. 2 x 36" or whatever.
Because the longest Photon is roughly 4 feet and you have a 6 foot tank. Why are you recommending 2 fixtures instead of the 1?
Thanks
The OP has mostly softies so may be OK with one. But too much is always better than not enough IMOBecause the longest Photon is roughly 4 feet and you have a 6 foot tank.
2 of the 32" is what I would do.
I can attest to him being fine with one, as I run a single 50 v2 Pro 17" above the water and grow Softies and LPS just fine. The OP has mostly softies so may be OK with one. But too much is always better than not enough IMO
Agreed I have the same size and run 6 noopsyche K7 III pro over it. I do have a couple of photons over 2 other tanks and like them .Numerous lights will work well but , having the same size tank, I would be careful that the bracing does not interfere and cause shadowing. I use 3 lights each of which fit in each 24 by 24 section.
At 17" that's a 34" spread with 90 degree lenses.I can attest to him being fine with one, as I run a single 50 v2 Pro 17" above the water and grow Softies and LPS just fine.
Indeed it's a 72x24x24 180g. Yeah im definitely spilling some light, but I was trying out the 17" based on trial and error. I most definitely will keep the 12" in mind if I change back. I originally had the back of tank mount, but switched to hanging as I didn't like the mount. At 17" that's a 34" spread with 90 degree lenses.
How wide is your tank?
From past posts looks like 24"...
Seems you are spilling a lot of light.
12" is roughly the sweet spot.
