I removed this video because it’s too graphic for some viewers. -Reefahholic-

You wouldn't believe some of the ridiculous things I've heard on these YouTube live streams lately. I have no clue where people get some of this stuff.

One guy the other night said...."Well, typically if a fish is gonna have problems...it's usually in the first couple of days." "After that...I just throw them in the tank."

"Another guy said...I run copper at half the dose...it helps the fish better."

SMH......

That’s sad. My LFS actually tells customers they don’t reccomend QT either. They are actually a pretty great store overall but I definitely disagree with them on that advice. None of their tanks have a single fish that visibly looks unhealthy like what is posted in this thread but they run low level copper in their fish only systems so ich could be masked. They do have a nice healthy looking display with some pretty sensitive fish somehow so they must have better luck than me.

Didn't listen to the video with sound so sorry if this is already answered but do you mind naming the LFS? This really is something that novice aquarists could have turn them off the hobby if they're starting out and don't know any better only to lose fish days later and get turned off from it.

Heavy UV and diatom filtration, probably. Combined with subtherapeutic copper, their fish will always look great more or less. Unfortunately telling people they should qt would absolutely kill a large number of potential sales, so they don't. And then just hope that the fish will survive in the customer's tank long enough that they don't realize that they came in with subclinical infections.

Although on the other hand, their experience could be that most customers don't do QT correctly and wind up killing more fish than they cure. I can't say that this is always incorrect; QT is intimidating and can be hard to do successfully.
