Lie to the post office

What do you tell the po when they ask you what you are shipping? Last time I said no liquids or perishables he said are you sure? Then shook the box. You could hear the liquid inside

As a liscensed vendor you are allowed to ship Live Animals. But I am pretty sure we are not allowed to. That's why I don't have rush please written all over the box. I will try the honest approach

The only problem I have ever seen is when people do mark the package "live animal" then the package might look like it was assaulted, Its almost like a "kick me" sticker!!

I tell my PO and she dont care as long as it nuttin thats going to hurt them. She dont ask anymore because she knows what Im shipping.

They actually like to chat with me about the fish and coral. LOL!

I am with Rev, I find more people at the shipping places (usps,fedex,ups) are actually interested about the corals and such that they never make much of a commotion.

I had them check their regulations and they could not find anywhere where shipping water was prohibited. We did get into a rather lengthy discussion over it, though, but in the end they shipped it without a problem.

perishable = yes, "it's fish food"... and smile again :D technically you didn't lie coz corals are food for some fishes... ;)

at first both fedex and USPS told me no way, they didnt want to have anything to do with it or wanted to charge me double. my local USPS has also mistreated my boxes a couple times and the boxes never made it out of the city , so i will never use them anymore. my local ups got to the point where they know me by name and never had a problem with it.

The main thing there are concerned with is leaking. I always say that they are double bagged and taped in an insulated box.

yup... they have signs in the post office that if it's liquid, just make sure it does not leak... and when insulated boxes are used, they are more suspicious (lack of better word) about the package...

normally, you come there and start chatting to them and SMILE! they don't really give you hassle... I've never been turned down before... :)

usps will ship live coral. i put "perishable, liquid, fragile, live coral, contains sea water, please deliver if leaking" all over the boxes i ship. ups and fedex will as well. you don't have to lie about anything.

I double bag each frag inside a styrofoam box and then bag the whole thing in a kitchen trash bag. That goes in a cardboard box. I use the FedEx "Perishable" stickers on the boxes but I don't think they even notice them. I drop them off at a FedEx pickup point and never have to talk to or deal with anyone. Just walk in and leave them on the table. No problem.

I wouldn't want to trust USPS with a box of frags in water!

if shipping poulty or other live/ perhiable items they want you to pay the additional $7.99 charge (up to 10 lbs). this way they will cover you if it dies and they al least try to deliver it instead of waiting for some reason.
