Why would one want to induce coral spawning in a home system? Seems to me that the extra bioload would cause a system crash when all the larvae suddenly die off and overwhelm the system with nutrients.

In case you missed it, here is a recent interesting video of Richard Ross' effort to get corals to spawn in captivity:

Moonlight all night. In a tank with anemones, it helps fish from getting into trouble with them.

I run a lihhts for a really long photoperiod from blues on at 630 am, Whites on at 11am, Whites off at 6am, blues off at 11. I can't ramp my lights so it's all the way on (25%) when it turns on.

What's everyone's thoughts on a mini UV light? My light only has UV on Whites, but I'd love to see plain UV with the flourescence. Could you get a small clip on or something like that?

My lights have a moon cycle built into the controller. I use that but have only had them for about a month so far I can verify that moon lights do go out at least one night per month. I am going to pay more attention to the moon cycle.

I have a Kessil ap700, and i run my lights to come on from 7am increasing to 75% from 2-5pm than decrease to 0% at 11pm...i run my moonlights thats automatically synced to the red sea lunar cycle....which i only run my moonlights from 11pm to about 1am' ish.....i have experienced any actual spawning but my growth on my zoas and frogspawn have seemed to really take off....not really sure if this is a factor but my frogspawn went from just one head to 4 heads in only about a month! But it sure is nice to watch my reef grow and if running moonlights could and would make my corals spawn, im all for that, gosh that would be a lovely sight to see wouldnt it? corals spawning in my living room, freaking awesome! lol

I'm currently running 3 Ocean Revive T247 leds, but building a floating canopy/light rack with t5s and led lunar lights. It's partly so I can see, albeit somewhat limited. Right now it's lights out. My trochus snails all come out in the dark, and so far I've counted over 60, starting with 3 or 4 hitchhikers.

Out at 11:30 back at 7am

First 2 hours are ReefBrites LED rampup from 12-100% and last 2 hours of the cycles are 100-12% rampdown.

Even at 12% reef brites are too bright for moonlight, but any lower than 12% and LEDs just go off.

If they'd work at 4% it would probably be ideal.

Like @cromag08 @Bob Escher @Leslie Tabor I run mine on the lunar cycle at 1% to see the tank at night when I am up. It is pretty cool to see what is happening when the day timers are a sleep.

With what lights? I thought you had aqua illumination. At 1% wouldn’t your lights be off a lot on lunar cycle?

I run a pretty bright moon schedule 10% on blue, royal blue, UV, and violet. But only at a intensity of 15%. It’s interesting bucause over the course of the month the brightness change depending on the actual cycle of the moon from full to none. So far I haven’t seen a effects good or bad on it. Been running for a month

We sleep, we are up usually during the day, I would say it is the same for our critters. I would say it also keeps the stress down.
