I'm getting ready to get all the plumbing for my tank upgrade and need to make my final decision between a Bean Animal and Herbie system. I'm leaning heavily towards the Bean but since this will be my first time using anything but the standard overflows on an aga ...... I don't want to overlook something and make the wrong call. Appears that either will work great but I like the 3rd drain 'failsafe' idea as well as the 'self adjusting', set it and forget it idea of the bean.
What I have is a 300 gallon dd with an 'almost' coast to coast external overflow .... which is about 5" wide and 7" deep ..... 5 holes drilled in bottom of overflow. 3 holes for 1" lines (with holes also in eurobracing for those) and 2 holes for 1.5" lines.
If I stick with the Bean style I would assume I should use 1 1.5" for the main siphon, the 1" for the open channel and the other 1.5" for the emergency ....... and the two remaining 1" for the return from sump. If Herbie style, which I'm assuming that is what the tank was kinda set up for .... then the two 1.5" lines for the sipon and back-up and all three 1" lines for the return from sump.
What would you all do? Thanks for any opinions and/or advice!!
