Followed a wise man’s advice……you know who you are ;) and took the longer trip! Been in the bucket for around 20 minutes and will be for another 20
Do you regret taking that advice ;)
Any long trip is worth it even if you come back with nothing, as you’ll come back with Atleast some advice from just listening to conversations!
Keep an eye on that sandbed, in a 4’ tank it should be alright though as one side is likely to hold life and be able to give the other side life.

No I don‘t because I liked seeing them lol.

On one side it is dirty dirty not like yours but yellowy orange. Hopefully that helps spread throughout the tank. I know I got this guy immaturely lol but hopefully it will work. We’ll see. NO ONE FOLLOW WHAT I DID :face-with-tears-of-joy:

That sand bed looks rather young and unestablished… it also looks rather shallow. These guys are harder than mandarins generally and need 3-4” deep sandbeds that are Atleast 2-3 years old at the minimum.

Ideally you want a sandbed that looks like this before you think about owning these guys. Their nutrients comes 97% from the sand and 3% generally comes from their food.

I have seen a surge in people wanting these though so I’ll probably do an article or something to explain what these guys need in terms of tank size and nutirents/diet.
He is fed frozen and tbh i have had him for over a year. So he is doing just fine

Good read well written. Awesome job on it. I will say i stand by my goby as being a very happy specimen with feeding frozen i do have an abundance of pods (both copepids and amphipods that i see him regularly eating and chasing. I will also say my sand bed is 3-4in. I do not feed 8 times a day frozen but pellets are utilized as well as phyto. He was grown from 1.5in when i got him to a solid 3 or 4 now with no issues. It can be done. Might not be a preferred way but can be done. I think i was able to establish him to pellets and frozen by having him as a youngster. So maybe a larger specimen would have a harder time adapting.
Again very well written and awesome write up

Smaller specimens often adapt better but generally older specimens come in and just never adapt properly.
I based what I said off of what I’ve seen in LFS’s which are larger specimens (2-3”) as seen with the Chalk Goby photos :)

That last photo is gorgeous!
Definitely would’ve used that instead of the front on photo I got of a malnourished puellaris.

Here are some photos of the sand bed not as mature as I want it or as yours but anything you would like to point out?

That looks great :)
The life in it is still establishing (yet you can still see it and it’s not just white sand) however if you just keep an eye on it then it should be alright.

Woke up this morning to find a dried up goby on the lid. Must’ve jumped through one of the tiny wholes where the lights are and couldn’t flop his way back in. I feel really bad. Hopefully this doesn’t happen with the wrasse.

Terrible way to start the day. Tomorrow is WC day so it’ll keep my head busy setting up the water and salt. Also I’ve noticed that no cyano or Dinos have come back. Hopefully the end of the uglies?…for now.

I’m really sorry. I can attest to diamond gobies being the best at finding holes in a lid.
