My last ICP showed strontium levels pretty low at 2.57 mg/l vs a set point of 8 mg/l. Just curious what might cause strontium to get this far out of line. Are there particular corals, clams, algae, etc. that use large amounts of strontium and might be causing my levels to be this low when targeting 8 dkh alk with core 7?

our sps eat it up, we dose 20 ml a week of brightwell strontium

when some sps frags became baby colonies, we saw an obvious increase in demand.

So are most of you with a lot of sps having to dose strontium regularly? I thought core 7 was balanced around a tank with a fair amount of sps. My sps still have a long ways to grow out so it looks like regular dosing is in my future if that's the case.

Every tank has a different blend of organisms, and every genus/species calcifies differently. Core7 is a best fit blend of macro and trace elements. After a few ICP tests you can dial in a tailored solution for your exact tank. Specifically regarding strontium, many corals will utilize it in calcification by substituting calcium ions, and when it is in higher concentration than normal seawater levels, it will substitute more calcium for strontium.

I have low strontium too. Low Sr B and I. Looks like I have to start dosing.

How do you put your latest ICP test in your signature? That's cool!

Similar to mine. My tank requires supplements of B, I, Mn, Sr, and Mg, but especially I and Mn which I dose weekly at the recommended levels and are still reading low. I'll shoot you a PM with how to add the results to the signature.
