That’s what I thought except it’s the 35 that is filling more often (and using a five gallon tank as the top off but it’s a long vs tall as opposed to the 2 gallon sump chamber in the 70 system). The 70 system, which is a display of about 42 gallons according to Waterbox is 24x on the surface. The 35 is 24x18. But the back chamber is open. The 70 is a sump system but that’s in a cabinet (with the back openish) so it’s really perplexing how I fill the five gallon up twice as fast as the 2 gallon. They are in separate rooms too. The 70 in the living room (foot traffic through the room) and the 35 in the office but it’s really an open floor plan. lol.

I bet your heater runs more frequently in the 35. Surface agitation causes evaporation which causes cooling to the water.

Still zero nitrates? Ammonia dosing may help but may fuel dinos too
Nitrates are about two now, lol. Dino’s came and somehow left. I have just used polyfill to pull the funk out.

Good morning, and so sorry I’ve left the thread for a bit. Had some goings on and stuff that has really bothered me and I needed to step away from thjngs for a bit before losing my mind lol.

So updates.

70- Didni mention a local reefer gave me a fire fish? Well it was the most adorable thing but it was extremely stressed from them placing in a box to feed and stuff cause it kept hiding. When I got him, he stayed out a fair amount. Hot Lips left him be. However I noticed a black spot on his body. When I was able to actually look at it ( I’ve had so much going on that the fish were not tended to more than just a cube of food daily) it was a full blown sore. Now, the fish was skinny when arrived and I figured I’d feed it up. But it passed the next morning after I noticed the sore. Trading Hot Lips is now not an option for 30 days( for my peace of mind) as I observe. She is fine with no issues but still. I’m bummed I really loved the little thing and feel like a failure.

35- Yesterday was 8 years that SideShow Bob and Selma came home, can y’all believe that? It’s crazy to me because other than Bloo, I’ve never had a fish for this many years. They’re doing fine. Tanks ph is 7.6 and I’ve no clue how to raise it up. I’ve got the entire surface breaking from both nozzles. 8.2 for the 70 one room over. Sigh. But other than the bleached hammer, things seem ok.

I’ve lost Phantom, he wedged himself under the Java fern like a dummy and couldn’t get out. My fault I should have attached it better. So redid his tank (it was my nightstand tank) and moved Marvin over. Marvin had swim bladder issues. Marvin was found a couple days after peacefully napping on his leaf hammock. So that’s three fish I’ve lost in the span of a couple weeks and that’s just depressing. I went to a new pet shop and retail therapied a red veil tail got because I really enjoy having a bed side buddy. I go to bed super early and while the dogs are great I can’t rule them up at night and get to sleep at a good time. So a fish is the best solution. I’ve been playing final fantasy 7 rebirth and a fav character from the game has always been Red XIII, or Nanaki. So I named him Nanaki, and he’s the watcher of the Veil (get it, cause Nanaki is watcher of the vale? Sigh I know. Nerd)

Some unexpected expenses and stuff has popped up and I had retired myself to the fact I’d never own the Eden I want. The Orphek 36” light isn’t selling, the two betta tanks aren’t selling and literally nothing else I own is of value. I’ve thought of moving the clowns back to the 70 and using the 35 as a fresh again but I had issues with how it would do so I don’t want to do that. However a friend has a 45 tall. She’s supposed to be getting the flex 9 and albis, and we are trading tanks. I need a stand and a lid ( like always, why do I do this to myself? But I have an idea now how I want to proceed. It is used and probably not of great quality but that’s ok I guess.

One thing I do to decompress from watching a toddler ( he’s a great kid but all boy and by the end of the day I feel ran over) is play my switch. Well my OLED dock just decided to crap out on me so no way to play on the tv now. Heartbreaking cause it’s the Zelda edition. Bummer. I’m looking for a new board game if ifixit would kindly get it in stock.

So anyhow here’s a couple pics of the tanks and of Nanaki. And yes he is that beautiful. And he’s got a great personality too.

I am sorry about the fish. If there is one aspect of this hobby I hate the most. It is the fish. They seem more sensitive than the coral I have kept.
final fantasy 7 rebirth
I just could not stomach the re-story.... On the plus side. Oblivion did an actual reskin, fresh coat of paint. New bugs, old bugs. And that one line which is comical to max. "that was bad, can we redo that?"

Very beautiful beta! And the name fits well.

I love fire gobies. They have great character once they are comfortable.

Lotos of gamer stuff in there... I am messing around with valheim while my youngest son wants to scream my ears off because his foot isn't moving where he wants it too...

And for my doberman. She now bites me if I try to sleep in. The husband watches the kids in the morning so I can hit the snooze button. The doberman? She isn't having it.

I was pleased to hear they left those bugs. After all it’s not a bug, it’s a feature :face-with-tears-of-joy:

Yeah my girls don’t let me sleep in either. So on weekends I’m still up at four am. Dogs. lol.

Absolutely out of my league with what I want to do on this tank but, who here has made a wooden canopy and can help me figure it out? lol
Good luck! It's not a lot of wood. If I had the tools to cut up the wood. It would still be a lot of measuring.

I’m mostly concerned with sealing the wood so the water doesn’t harm it. Since it’s only 3 ft the canopy won’t be too large. Doors will hopefully be pretty easy. Saw a canopy riser and that looks fun but also the intricacies of the build of that canopy overwhelmed me to where I stopped watching lol.

Thompson Seal or something like that... We used it on ours and it protects for a few years before the lights and water start to break it down. It soaks in, too though which helps keep the wood from rotting even when they outside layer starts showing cracking.

Flex seal maybe.

Or did it what wood boat builders use; probably some kind of epoxy.

A few updates:

Battling cyano, low ph and low alkalinity in the small reef. Out of salt and was hit with loss of money, 600 monthly to be exact. So, I may have some tough decisions to make. Will touch on that later on down.

Big tank is zooming along nicely. Hot Lips still here. Have to speak with the reef shop on what I should do about the death of the fire fish and possible contamination of this tank. Hot Lips has shown zero signs of issues.

The nem, which is now three has looked stringy. I’m not sure why. I used a program for the Noopsyche light and it could just not be enough for them so switched to higher. One of the nems took off onto the back glass. Then it proceeded to detach and started to slowly fall towards the powerhead… which I was lucky enough to see and unplug right away. Nem removed and stuffed in the Shu box in the big tank. Seems happier now. Tendrils are beefing back up and it’s staying on the rock I gave it. We will see.

Pallifina decided to spawn but the littles kn there was irritating them lol. So I snapped a pic of mama being absolutely done with them. You can see her frustration. Meaning this weekend son in law will hopefully bring me back my 20 long to stuff on the porch for summer raising.

In the mean time, here is the 45. It’s super heavy but not in bad shape.

The right side is my main inspiration for what I want to accomplish with this:
IMG_2615.jpeg

So onto the conundrum. I can’t find a way to raise the ph of this little tank. And the loss of 600 a month puts a really big damper on things. So, I may combine the tanks. Since I have the lid for the 70 system, as well as the awesome rock and such, I may pull the rock from the smaller and make instead of giant rockwork in the center, focus on the sides. My issues are though:

Hot Lips and the clowns. I don’t know if they’ll get along. Actually I highly doubt it. Hot Lips is massive.

Nems and the age of the tank. While the tank is cycled and the skimmer and all is doing amazing and params seem to be great I worry if the tank is still too new for the long run of the BTAs. I’m sure the rock flowers will be just fine as will the zoas. Just those nems.

Moving things will be a pain. I did it once before but I’m unsure how to proceed with combining. And then wondering if the stuff I don’t use (sand rocks ect) would be ok to reuse if we get more money coming in down the line.

What would y’all do?
