dang, what a rollercoaster!?
Well battled through.
Thanks, I won’t lie this was supposed to be the easy recovery. It’s been anything but I’ll admit I gave up for a while. I’m re dedicated but when’s a guy catch a break. I feel like I’m getting everything wrong or I’ve been gambling at the worst house on the block.

Whoop Whoop. My TS-44 finally arrived. @mixer911 you guys knocked this outta the park as usual.
They flipped the sump and added 1” bulkheads with adapters from the standard 1.5” so I didn’t have to change my current plumbing too much.
As I’ve said before I have an SS-34 and a custom built Synergy but this one blows them away.
If your in the market for a sump look no further.

I did add another set of fittings into the “crash box” so I could dose all 4 elements it will make for a cleaner install when I mount both DOS units next to the sump. I’ll use the other side for my ATO and have a spare for any liquid supliments I may need. This will also ensure all elements get through the refugium 1st pass.

Sump upgrade picture overload!!!

So I came home after a 13 hour shift Sunday bought a monster or 2 and decided today’s the day.
All my stuff was in from #BRS I think they love me when ever I do my tank upgrades.
I stopped by lowes on way home last minute change from grey to white fittings.

Ok..... deep breath what could go wrong,
Pulled my cheato, #sbreef pod hotels and threw the house out the back door no turning back.
Cut my pvc just above my old unions, pre planning for a re plumb always helps.
Yup. So when I put the 45’s back for a contractor pack I grabbed 90’s. After a 30 melt down I pushed ahead with the 90’s #brsinvestigates says the loss is negligible.

Quick wipe down of the stand new sump in fill with RODI #fritz salt and bring to temp.

I’ve mixed fritz in my mixing station and had issues, now I use a small powerhead to help move the water and it clears quickly.
D647CD57-DACB-4698-B7B2-07C69B7B5314.jpeg

I dosers are hooked up. I should have just disconnected them, my #core7 went every where,
And those lines caught up on everything.

I wish I had a photo of my “bypass gadget” working it’s 2 PVC pipes with a section of tubing in the middle. I can jam it into the return and output bulk heads and get everything leak tested and tuned without disturbing the DT.
It’s 0300 I’m done....

Up at 0700. The overflow was so loud I got up a million times expecting a leak with no regard for my ALD.

Turns out cranking up the flow pushed so much water through my overflow easy fix I raised the water level in the box by extending my emergency drain. Turns out the extra inch of water looks better anyway.

Side note I’m on day 7 of the #drtims cyano treatment plan it’s starting to look better.

So I spent the next 5 hours Re wiring my Apex.
I finally labeled all my plugs and consolidated plugs. I can finally turn everything from on to ‘auto’ and really enjoy tank automation.

I installed the old light from my daughters glofish tank because eye candy

I still have to mount and route my vortech wires but they are moved and tangle free.
I need to separate and cable wrap the wires to the left. I’m using lab grade probes so I’m glad I don’t have to worry about interference.

Overall I’m very impressed with the #synergyreefsystems sump. @mixer911 hit it out of the park. I can already see the flow pattern through the sump. Dosing in the crash box you could see the core7 dissolve fast as it went through refugium.
The fast flow rate does make some noise. I’m running 650 according to the FMK, you can see the flow in the skimmer chamber “recirculating” rather than been pushed over the top with the under flow baffle design. Kudos there.
point worth mentioning, I think you need bricks to keep anything down in the final baffle with the flow coming up it pushes whatever is there into the return section.
I ran some filter floss to help keep debris down while I was running maintenance. The filter floss filter and the green plastic covers kept getting pushed into the return section I threw a brick of biopure on it to hold it down. I’m beginning to question the accuracy of the FMK, I did turn the flow down to a trickle but you could see the debris in the fuge become stagnant.

Edit*yes I did install my FLow meter backwards.

well I started off with MH never liked them Hot, cumbersome and the power usage.
I switched to Radions about 2 years ago and they have been awesome. If you can think it and know how to get there it will do it. It’s not T5 however, there shining a tribute is the ability to get that spectrum your looking for when you need it.
I have ran the AB+ schedule and I bleached and lost almost all my coral, it was my mistake. The program defaults to 100% intensity I changed it up there was a connection error, it never changed.
Currently I’m running a custom schedule from i❤️Reefing I have followed schwins build since I started and his tank has always been an inspiration. I love the European style but the look too clean too perfect. Either way his lights and corals always popped and the growth is proven.
If I had to do it again it would be a choice between T5 and supplement with a reefbrite or SB Reef. I just think that even with the slight growth trade off Radion wins with power consumption and versatility.

Thank you very much.. I have played with the idea of Radion’s with T5 supplements, as well as getting an ATI SunPower and adding strips of RB’s as well. So I have playing with a lot of ideas as well for my tank... just thinking of everything before I make the purchase. You think I should go Radion /T5 or T5/RB ?

I did try and 8 bulb ATI it only lasted 3 days before it wasn’t what I wanted. In saying that tho if it was a dimmable programmable unit and then getting RB’s then it may have been viable option. It was just too much work I went back to Radions.

Holy heck, school is kicking my butt. tanks pretty much running itself so ill highlight some changes.

i changed out the SB Sprite Reef Sprite with the H380 my cheato growth has increased to I'm filling my 20G refugium in a week or so.

I have not had much success with the pod's hotels so I just leave them in there and hopefully, they will give them a 'safe space' from when i harvest the cheato I don't see many pods in there but whatever that's another issue I'm sure I had seeded about 4 times.

So November 12. I was contacted by a guy in the local shooting community, who said he had a hippo, tomato and a pair of zebra damsels to rehome due to him not being able to care for them I didn't realise these fish were over 20 years old.
I chose not to QT other than a dose of Prazi since the water salinity was 0.22 and had been for about 5 or 6 years. the Zebras didn't make it into DT as they were so big I was concerned about aggression. The hippo showing some signs of HLLE maybe? I feed lots of mysis and nori and selcon so far 'blue' has improved trumendosly.

Jan updates more pictures, Flame finally survived QT along with a male Naso, no new corals. I took GFO and Carbon offline still not able to get any nutrients to show on a test. added a 4th Radion a few days ago.

im running schwings old schedule from i love reefing. at 52% peak intensity is 34% which on the top corals is around 280 PAR using an MQ510. I'm still raising since that bleach out earlier in the year. while i did lose most of my stuff im still nervous.
