I used to dose it back when I had a bryopsis problem and a couple people mentioned it as a good remedy. When I tested my water it was around 1250 and by the time I got it up to 1400 (about 2 weeks) the bryopsis had all withered away and died. May have been coincidence...but I'm sold.

I haven't bothered testing or dosing it lately since things seem to do better when I just leave things be. If things ever look "off" these days I just check alk levels and that usually solves them.

4.My elos test kit was miss marked from the factory and after getting that worked out-I find I am sitting at 2100 instead of the 1500-1600 I wanted but there's been no side affects that I can tell

i make my own mag solution out of mag pellets and epson salt mixed with RO.

i dose regardless of levels atleast 1-2 cups a week. I have seen amazing results.

Rev, I also think you should ask what levels tend to keep their mag at? It is definitely more important with corals with hard skelatons. I shoot for 1400 at par.

i use a dyi and i put in about a cup everyweek...i do test for it every month..but i did a little run on mine and figured that the one cup a week keeps mine steady at about 1400 of course if i add new corals i would have to add a little more..i had a salifert test kit..when this one runs out i might go to elos..i did that on cal and alk and like those kits

I tell you, it's like you have to do double tests w/ two test kits of different brands these days!

Who Dah-No doubt on the double testing-
call Jesse from Elos and he can tell you-you waste alot of fluid it is mismarked

thats why i am switching all the tests in can over to LaMotte...I only have the calcium test kit right now, but its amazingly accurate, and error free.

1. I test weekly.
2. Monti's, especially the caps, will start to lose color and look leathery. My sunsets will start to turn rusty orange instead of bright orange.
3. Better and consistent calcium and alk levels, both get used more efficiently it seems.
4. I have not noticed any significant changes to anything at higher levels.
5. I check levels weekly and when it slips around 1300, I drop in half a gallon or so of mix to boost it back up. I use bulk reef supply mag sulf and mag chlor
6. Elos is the best one I have tried.
7. I target 1350 - 1400, but its been as high as 1500.

Jesse, I think its limited to the kits with a certain expire date... see this RC thread. As far as I know, this was the only known issue. If there are others, I would like to know as well.
