I used a product called Real Reef rock. It is synthetic and is supposed to utilize components from the reef. I assume aragonite, coral bones, etc. I'm not sure it is as porous as some other options. I let it soak in saltwater with a pump and heater for 5 months before the tank was setup. I'm not sure the tank really ever cycled again since the rock had handled that on its own in the brute can earlier.

I doubted the legitimacy of this piece for many months and decided to cut the frag to encourage any kind of growth. But just lately it is starting to look like it has the framework of the promised coral. I might be a bit of a skeptic. :)

Love this setup. Very nicely done.

I thought I'd break up the monotonous list of frag pics with an equipment shot. When constructing the stand, I fabricated a simple fixed shelf to house my GHL Profilux and doser pumps. One benefit of having the profilux mounted up higher was the ability to tuck the cables and cords up into a raceway that is hidden from view when looking into the cabinet. This has worked pretty well so far.
