Not that I have a Mandarin.. But always heard they are finicky eaters and yes LIVE. I've heard of some eating frozen my sis or brine.. but it's a long shot. You need to keep the tank stocked with pods as mandarin s will chow down on them.. So keep an eye on amount in tank and find a good supplier online..

It's very wise to know the fish your getting before you buy!! You ARE going to get MANY different opinions on the best way to keep a Mandarin. Most of which you will NOT like. My opinion is.....Mandarins are a Special Needs Fish and should be treated as such, period.

I agree with NanaReefer. I had one for three years in an established tank (90 gallon), it was a fat cow. I never had to worry about feeding it. When I had to relocate to an apartment I decided to downsize to the nuvo24. I transferred as much live rock, corals, as I could (along with the mandarin and a clown pair). Around one mount after the transfer I had to give the mandarin to a friend with a larger more established tank.

Anyway enough about my story. What size is your tank? How long has your tank been established? What fish do you have in the tank with the mandarin?

You'll need to feed your Mandarin at least 1000 copepods a week. That's if they are the right type of copepods. Mandarins spend up to 16hrs a day foraging. Especially if your Mandarin is NOT accepting prepared foods.
