Maxima clam and bare-bottom

A maxima clam that's between 2-2.5 inches, is it better to place it directly on a bare-bottom and let it move around or give it support by putting it in a small tupperware tub with substrate?

They struggle to stick to glass in my experience, best to find a decent sized ceramic frag tile or anything similar and sit it on that and wait for it to stick it's foot down, then glue the bottom of the tile to glass if you need. Clams always do better on something sturdy compared to sand, especially small ones..

I would go with tupperware tub as small clams should be target fed with phytoplankton at that size as they are not relying on light as a primary source of energy. The tupperware tub can be taken out the tank and then just put some phytoplankton in with the clam for 10-20 minutes 2-3 times a week. Once they get around 3+ inches they should be more dependent on light so the tank can be fed instead of target feeding.

While target feeding is probably useful, I have never directly fed any of my clams, and I have purchased many of them in the 1" or so size. They have all grown nicely.
