Good after noon y’all, just saw brightwell just released microbacter purple. I see it will feed your corals while adding beneficial bacteria. Just wondering if anyone got there hands on it and see if there is any long term benefits down the road.

Out of curiosity, what were you expecting the product to do?I just finished a bottle of this purple bacteria, I wanted to try it just to try it. Honestly, I feel like I took $30 out of my pocket and dropped it in tank. I regret it, its just more snake oil IMO
Its a fair question and in all honesty I don't have a good answer. Its a new product being discussed in reef circles with the usual debate of benefit vs snake oil, so I wanted to try it for myself and have my own opinion.Out of curiosity, what were you expecting the product to do?
Thanks for that detailed response! Lots of great information. Also, thanks for the link to that ReefBuilder article. I had NOT seen that article yet with the results of the ACI Coral Farm test. It supports my findings as well.
Hi Brad, yes, I think our last convo ended with J&L Aquatics discontinuing, and another, larger distributor potentially taking it on. I definitely didn't mean to leave you hanging, I guess we too were kind of hanging on while waiting for a decision from the 'new' distributor, who unfortunately never took the final steps of physically getting a box across the border. To their credit, I believe they were waiting until we released the revamped packaging and new product (PNS Deep Cycle) before squeezing the trigger (which totally makes sense to me). But I agree, it's about time! I promise I've already got Bel and you on a list of Canadian friends to contact when we have a presence up North again. I also promise that I'll start prodding some dealers up there harder until we're back on Canadian shelves. Might be a bit trickier right now given the present state of trade relations between our countries, but I'll do my best and reach out to let you know before the first box even touches ground. Thank you so, so much for your patience, and also for your ongoing interest in our brews!Been using the Purple M bacteria for a month or better and it's defiantly lowering the nutrients. It's part of my Dino reduction plan that I can't say if it's working or not. I am seeing a decline in LCA but I'm also dosing Aquaforest Life Source mud weekly. Microblift special blend every 3rd day and recently added a Waste away gel pack to the tank. I did buy a LV Sweeper and IMHO it's a waste of money. But as for the Purple M? got me if its doing anything but then again it's to soon to really comment a YAY or NAY for Bright-well. Would I buy it again? probably not, but if I see something remarkable then yes I'll use it again.
@Kenneth Wingerter I pm'd you months ago looking where to buy your product here in Canada but I never did receive a reply so I got Brightwell.
Hi telegraph. I'm finishing up my testing on the three main pnsb products on the market. I will probably post my results next week. Did you ever get a biomic report on the Brightwell purple m product? Honestly, my preliminary results are not very impressive with the products so I was wondering what the makeup of this solution isHere's a collection of AquaBiomics-tested product results. https://humble.fish/community/threads/bottled-bacteria-results-main-thread.20944/
I do have the report, and I want to share the data, but I think it best for my family, for now, that I not share. More to follow.Hi telegraph. I think I understand. That's okay you don't really need to share anything if there is concern for liability or backlash. In fact your concern probably answers the question for me. Also, my results are pretty clear that the product is likely little different from microbacter 7.I do have the report, and I want to share the data, but I think it best for my family, for now, that I not share. More to follow.
What I suggest you do is send in a Purple sample to AquaBiomics. Or send Eli your partial bottle. More testing of any of these products would yield valuable data.
The Purple and MB7 I tested are not similar, and I like your paper towel test. Great idea!the product is likely little different from microbacter 7.
Did they dilute the special blend recently? I just resupplied mine and it's noticeably less "darker" looking. Here's a collection of AquaBiomics-tested product results. https://humble.fish/community/threads/bottled-bacteria-results-main-thread.20944/
I use the special blend specifically to crowed out dinos. I use a sulfur reactor so my nitrates stay pretty low. Phosphate I can barely keep it detectable.I'm glad the products are not the same. My goal and testing is purely focused on reducing phosphates. Of course any heterotrophic bacteria in a bottle will help with that goal but most of this bacteria in a bottle is fast and easy growing pseudomonas and bacillus type bacteria. Nothing bad about it especially if you're trying to crowd out potential dangerous vibrio, but those bacteria naturally will metabolize nitrates then phosphates. As a result, if you dose enough of it, or supplement it with carbon dosing, you're going to drive your nitrates to zero way faster than you get your phosphates under control.

I started with dry rock and could never get my nitrates under control and I tried everything you can imagine, turf scrubber (still in use I'm pretty sure it's eating my phosphates), carbon dosing (vinegar, nopox eliminp and Bio pellets), refugium and massive water changes. When I started the sulfur reactor my nitrates were over 75 on Hanna within about a month they were coming down quickly and now they are currently at 4.6. They will drop your Alk and raise calcium so I had to adjust my dosing but other than that it's the easiest and best way I've found to manage nitrates. That's great! I've never seen a problem with nitrates in my aquarium, even when it got higher above 20 PPM. So never thought to try a sulfur denitrifier, but it's good to know it works well.
Everyone's tanks are different but in this current 400 gallon reef with 12 fish (about 40 inches total of fish) my struggle has always been phosphates. I tested the Special Blend and it does work to improve phosphates versus just a standard bottle of beneficial heterotrophic bacteria like mb7 or waste away![]()
Something changed. The dosing instructions and contents differ from those of another bottle I sampled.Did they dilute the special blend recently? I just resupplied mine and it's noticeably less "darker" looking.
It doesn't smell the same either.Something changed. The dosing instructions and contents differ from those of another bottle I sampled.
