Hello all!

I had an idea on my way to work the other day, but don’t know how viable it would be so I came to see if there would be any interest.

As a welder, I have always tried to find a way to incorporate that into reefing but metal and saltwater don’t tend to mix well. Then I recently moved and really wanted to do a new stand for my Waterbox 110.4 that would match our other mid century modern furniture. Nothing really stood out to me which is what got me thinking, if i took a mid century cabinet, disassembled it, and then reassembled it around a metal frame, would there be people interested in something like that? My main concern is the price, these already hard to source and way over priced cabinets would take a good amount of time to refinish and assemble around a custom metal frame and that would drive the cost up to $1k-$2k just for a stand for a 75G-100G display (I could be wrong here, just my rough estimate of time and the price of the cabinets). I don’t see many people being willing to spend more than the price of the tank on the stand but I could be wrong. I think it would be a super cool look and a fun project if there was anyone actually interested!

Are you building one of these for yourself, or looking to build them and sell them?

For yourself to fit in with your furniture, great idea. As a stand to sell to others... not so much.
