Hi reef2reef!
I am about to set up my new tank. This time im going for an open and minimal aqua scape and don’t want any dead spots. The new tank is 36x24x20.
For water movement this is what I have to work with:
Two tunze 6105
Two sea sweeps
Two octo pulse 4.
what do you think will be the best configuration for my powerheads? I would like to just use the tunzes without the sea sweeps; they’re kind of bulky. I want this tank tank to be really clean.
thanks reef2reef!

Why not use the tunze on the sea sweeps and call it a day??? That’s what I would do if I had those and your pumps. Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii............. you get random, moving flow and German quality? Done deal no brainer. Who cares about bulk, I’d take the water movement over bulk.

Thanks for chiming in.
I do like the flow I get from the sea sweeps and tunzes. That’s what I have on my current tank.

I would start with the sweeps and tunze and watch to see where the detritus seems to settle. You can always reconfigure or add power heads as needed. Chances are you will wind up moving things around a little bit until you're happy with the flow anyway.

Just use the tunze. You got plenty of flow in those for that size tank for sure. I run 2 6095's and to jeabo ow25's on my 120. They all alternate on and off every 5 seconds. Very random.
2 6105's on the back wall would rock that tank.

I have my new tank up and running with both tunzes on their own seasweeps, two octopulse 4, and two rfg return nozzles. The tank looks really clean and the flow is very powerful and random. I’m really happy with how it turned out. The whole right right side of my tank will be only high end acros.
I removed my giant monti cap and digitata to make room for the frags.

The aquascape is nowhere near minimal but I’m still pleased with how it turned out. I can’t wait for the new frags to turn into mini colonies.

Ok let me give you specs for this tank.
I recently took down my 90 gallon 36x24x24 tank. Most of the rocks and corals are now in the new tank. The new tank is a crystal dynamics tank 36x24x20 75 gallons. It’s is eurobraced at the bottom of the tank and double eurobraced at the top. Equipment list:
Vertex omega i180 protein skimmer,
Tunze ato, Ati 36 inch 8 bulb powermodule, two tunze 6105 on two seasweeps, two reef octopulse 4, kessils h380 fuge light, teco hy500 chiller, really old sicce return pump, and two kamoer x1 dosing pumps.
This is what the old tank looked like.
and this is the new tank.

I’m curious why you made this change? The tank is the same footprint so nothing gained there. It’s shorter so an increase in PAR is possible. Or there was something about the old tank that wasn’t making the grade?

The new tank looks a lot nicer, no plastic trim, low iron glass, modular marine overflow doesn’t take up much space, better build quality. The 20 inch height allows me to reach in and do whatever I have to without much struggle.

Lordy. The thickness of that glass. Must be an optical illusion. Looks like it could hold 300 gallons. How thick is that glass?

And yes, the new one looks better.

Any reason why you didn't want to go with a bigger tank? I can assume why you stayed with the same footprint, but I guess that would have been an opportunity for me to go bigger in some aspect.

The sea sweeps are the best thing I have got powerhead wise. I vote seas sweeps, brainer here too. Nothing will provide perfect growth form like they will.

Yeah. One of the best piece of equipment for this tank. The flow in this tank is pretty amazing with the tunzes on a seasweep, two rfg return nozzles, and two octopulse 4.
