Molybdenum Dosing Frequency

A few weeks ago my ICP test resulted in Molybdenum of 1.6 ug/L. I am planning to make a DIY molybdenum from Sodium Molybdate >99% pure, mixing 1g of this in 1000mL. After reaching my desired molybdenum value between 12-15, how often should I dose this in my tank as maintenance?

I would dose to the amount you need to be at 12-15ug/L and then do another icp test about a month later. Divide it by the number of days between icp test, and then you have your daily consumption. It's worth noting that blooms in your microfauna can change your molybdenum levels quite a bit, and gfo will also remove it.

I’ve never dosed in 3 years. It’s the first ICP test I’ve done for this tank.

Then I can only advise to dose based on a second test, or to try to mimic what a product such as Tropic Marin A and K at its suggested dose would be (I don’t recall that offhand).

Just for perspective. I dose TM A and B and have done 3 ICP tests and each time Molybdenum has been low, but decided to not dose it.

Thanks for the insight. According to Fauna Marin’s description about Mo, nitrates seem to be elevated with low Mo but then again I love feeding my tank lol. My nitrates are currently at 50. I dose carbon daily and do a water change every other week. I’ll dose Mo and see how my tank responds.

Yes, very cool to see what will happen. I decided, based on ICP, to dose potassium, F, V, and Ni. Are you only dosing Mo?

Based on my ICP, I’m currently dosing Mg( was 1170, dosing with EVS Mg), Mn ( was 0.1, dosing with DIY Mn gluconate) and K( was 334, dosing with DIY K Chloride) will dose Mo soon once I get my Amazon delivery
