You'll be glad you never chucked it. If there's enough food try and stop them reproducing. Mine can explode in a few days then after many harvests die down. Never clean the bottom of the container as many pod eggs lay there waiting to hatch at least with the small pods I have.
Big thanks to you for starting this thread, and for your video.
This is awesome!

I'm lazy but I just might be able to commit to not doing anything and having more pods. Heck, if they keep going, I might even go looking for a bigger container.

You're welcome and free live food what's not to like for so little effort.

Where are people getting your 'scoop out net'? Net may seem like dumb question...

My indoor culture in 2.5g tiny tank going well (maybe I'm overfeeding based on strong green color compared to others' photos). My indoor culture does have a shop light sitting over it with a $3.50 ($7 for 2 LED bulbs) in 5k spectrum (stole from my refugium) and I started it with clean saltwater and phyto from @Eldredge .

My pods and spirulina seem same size...

My outdoor culture not sure if going but continue to feed 'just in case' - suspect TX heat has been too much BUT also entirely possible I just can't see pods. My indoor culture pods I can't see looking down into water, only thru clear glass side. My outdoor culture pods have translucent plastic bin, so they COULD be there but I can't see them outdoors thru plastic.

I've created a post within my build thread for my pod indoor and pod outdoor experiments, both based loosely on this thread. Here is indoor pod culture when it started, but it is MUCH greener now (also gets a tiny bit of sunlight thru window)

I haven't actually scooped any out of my little Tupperware culture yet but Amazon sells cheapie brine shrimp nets that I use all the time for other random stuff. (The nets are cheapie and the telescoping shaft eventually falls apart but the head is easily bendable/formable and they last long enough for the price).

Here's an example that comes with 2 different sizes -- I think these should work unless you're looking for a BIGGER net area:

Ibbuy these cheap round fine nets with stiff wire and plastic handles from eBay the net head is approx 5" in diameter.

Bless everyone for sharing. LOVE Lazy Banana Leaf Method.

My Summary:
- outdoor experiment in 13.5gallon storage container failed after 26 days
--- never able to harvest any pods
--- TX heat may be responsible, yard southern facing, no shade, concrete under bin
- indoor experiment in 2.5 gallon tiny tank abundant pods for daily (or 2x) feedings
--- started 10/9 with clean saltwater, 1"x2" banana peel leftover & live phyto 300ml
------- clean saltwater instead of dirty tank water & indoors are only real deviations
--- put $3.50 LED 5K spectrum over tiny tank (same that grows macroalgae great)
-------- suspect live phyto is growing in tank due to light over tiny tank
--- added spirulina capsule contents most afternoons, switched to loose (cheaper)
--- best to extract pods before giving spirulina else spirulina mixes with pods (messy)
--- brine shrimp net shaped like fish net was hard to get pods out
------ switched to cheap, small, flat brine shrimp & pod net similar to earlier posts
--- took 2 weeks before daily harvests started; could have been sooner if had net
----- in 3 days observed tiny tig pods (hatchlings!)
----- culture seeded with LFS @Reef Nutrition Tig Pods which all seemed adults
-------- suspect their pods being adult sped up babies else should have been longer

Before getting either brine shrimp net types, purchased Pod Hotel because I didn't anticipate how very well pods would go in net. When I put Pod Hotel into tiny tank, it fell apart, so I wrapped rubber band around it. If I remember it is down there maybe in couple weeks will move from tiny tank to main tank sump refugium

Yes I found those small nets the best for getting pods out.

Very similar method here. No banana peel. I just let leaves and bugs be the fuel.

you will find massive pod gatherings around dead bugs as they decompose. I believe they are feeding on the bacteria.

outside cultures rock for tigger pods. Also I DO find that dropping a heater in the bucket set to the lowest setting works great. When it gets too cold at night you WILL see population declines. A heater solves that. I have a TON of them as I buy a new one for my tank every 1-1.5 years and keep the old ones on the garage.

I tried the outdoor version too, pods stated to multiply fast at the start but now after about a month it looks more like they are declining what might be due to the Queensland heat.
Just wondering when you started the inside test did you do any waterchanges, and do you feed daily?
Any aeration of the water? My outside culture has rather brown than green water and the to looks a bit like there is a layer of mucus on top.

Indoor version I think the key is keeping a 60W LED 5,000K light bulb on top... sort of simulated sunlight. I feed TINY amounts of spirulina... I went back east and BF (fish sitter) feed nearly years worth of spirulina in a week - crashed indoor culture. I restarted but shared light across two cultures (trying to do another species of pod - Algae Barn EcoPods) and only difference was light, so last week I spent $12 for another utility light an $3 for another light bulb from home improvement store... waiting to see if my Reef Nutrition Tigger Pods comes around on its own. I'm leaning towards putting another bottle in inside culture to jump start them (and another bottle for IN tank until culture gets going again)

No aeration, as this thread states earlier. Though I do have a stick from yard that I may twirl every once in a while. No water changes.. its "lazy" method. When I notice there is no flesh left on banana peel, I do remove thin peel remains and add another 1" bit of banana peel. Earlier this thread there is speculation pods need the potassium but I don't know.

Tigger pods compared to EcoPods (blend), I prefer visibility of Tigger pods (EcoPods are all so small). I may end up just with Tigger pods, but since first culture went so well until I went on travel and they got overfed, I'm going to play a bit with other pod species. I'm also going to try out indoor culturing for a couple other pod species from Algagen that are coming in this week.

I also culture Tisbe pods - indoors - with a simple setup.

Glass drink dispenser from Walmart - with spout for easy collection
Salt water - 1.021-24 ish
Bag of pods from an Ebay seller Reefandfins
Tetra and Nano Phyto I culture myself (very easily)
A couple of bio balls that I took out of my sump.
tempImageNUGR1r.png

Sorry the image is sideways! I 'harvest' out of the spout - makes it super easy - and then replace what I took out with new salt water and phyto. I do have to feed this culture almost every day. It starts out this color - and by tomorrow morning will be very pale green.

Why the bio balls?

I started my outdoor pod in June thanks @atoll I only added 2 X bags 90ml to begin with... That's it, it has cost me a little salt, 2 bags of copepods and honestly deffenitly worth it, I'm still testing as it's been hot in UK but so far.. better then expected results :) :)

Mine reduced in the heat but have made a comeback. I harvested some today in fact.

How much exactly are folks feeding the spirulina each day? My high school students are starting this whole experiment. Another teacher is already culturing phyto and trying to grow spirulina but we don’t want to over feed the pod culture.

Whenever I see anyone raising pods it reminds me of when you could order "sea monkeys" out of the back of comic books ..lol

I don't feed every day in my outdoor breeding vats. I use spirulina to supliment the phyto when I see the water getting clearer.

No feeding until it clears up yeah? My pods are booming in this. Lazy method with banana peel works great lol
